Realistic Video Based Assistive Living

A research project in collaboration with Universiti Malaya (UM) and funded by UM Research Collaborative Grant Scheme entitled Realistic Video Based Assistive Living is looking for one postgraduate research officer and one postdoctoral research fellow to work on the following sub-projects:

1. Security and robustness of video – from transmission to storage in the cloud
   In this project, we aim to: (a) construct a theoretical model to capture the robustness of video with respect to well-known restrictions and adverse attacks by hostile parties; (b) propose a new robust video encryption algorithm based on the notion of provable security, and; (c) prove the robustness of our designed algorithms based on extensive experiments, and based on the notion of provable security.
2. Visual based ambient assistive living - from passive monitoring to active directing
   The main objectives are to: (a) develop novel computer vision techniques in order to recognize the eating and drinking hand postures of physically-challenged individuals such as the elderly; (b) propose correct hand postures through example videos, and; (c) design privacy-preserving extensions of the assistive living techniques so that observed individuals can maintain their dignity

The ideal postgraduate research officer candidate should possess:

1. A bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electronics/Computer/Multimedia/Telecommunications engineering or Computer Science/IT with minimum second upper class (preferably CGPA above 3.5).
2. Background knowledge or prior experience in computer security or image/video processing.

The ideal postdoctoral research fellow candidate should possess:

1. PhD in engineering or computer science or equivalent.
2. Candidate who has recently submitted the PhD thesis for examination and currently awaiting viva will also be considered.
3. Background knowledge or prior experience in computer security or image/video processing.

The monthly student stipend for postgraduate research officer is RM2500 whereas the monthly allowance for postdoctoral research fellow is RM5,500.
