Programme Objectives:

  • To provide a formal framework for the professional development of working engineers so that they can up-date their knowledge
    and upgrade their competencies in the emerging photonics technology.
  • To produce technical leaders who are innovative and have deep insight into the applications of the photonics technology in R&D and in industries such as communication and manufacturing.

Minimum Entry Requirement

  1. a bachelor’s degree with honours or CGPA of 2.00 and above in a related field from MMU or equivalent from another recognised university; or
  2. any other academic qualifications equivalent to (a), as approved by the Senate.

An applicant with a non-honours degree may be considered, if he has attained a GRE/GMAT score (general test and at least one of the subject test) that is acceptable to the respective Faculty.

English Language Requirement
In addition to the academic requirements, an applicant is also required to possess a sufficient level of English language proficiency by obtaining one of the following:

  • a minimum overall TOEFL score of 580 (paper based) or 237 (computer based) or 92 (internet based) ; or
  • a minimum IELTS overall band score of 6.5; or
  • a credit in 1119 English Examination; or
  • a minimum score of 580 in Multimedia University’s English Language Proficiency Test; or
  • a minimum MUET overall band score of 4; or
  • any other qualification which is of equivalent level as determined by the Senate of the University.

All applicants must fulfill the English Language requirement in order to be admitted to the approved programme.

Upon the recommendation of the Faculty, the Senate may waive the English requirement for candidates who have obtained their bachelor or master’s degrees where English has been used as the main medium of instruction or as one of the media of instruction.
