MASTER OF PHILOSOPHY (MPHIL)
Offered By: Monash University Malaysia
The MPhil was introduced to complement existing faculty-based research master’s programmes. Successful completion of the programme will signify that the candidate has successfully completed a course of research training and has satisfied the examiners that he/she can carry out a research project and analyse critically the results. While it is not necessary that an MPhil thesis would make a major contribution to the discipline by way of new knowledge (as a PhD would require), an MPhil thesis would be expected to make a contribution to an existing body of knowledge by applying, clarifying, critiquing or interpreting that knowledge. The MPhil is a 24 month full-time equivalent programme.
Mode of study: Research
The MPhil is intended as a 72-point degree of 18 months full-time
equivalent or 36 months part-time. The minimum and maximum
period of candidature is 12 and 24-months full-time equivalent (or
24 and 48 months part-time) respectively.
The degree is a 100% research programme, with a thesis requirement of a maximum of 50,000 words.
Entry requirements:
- A degree of bachelor’s with honours I (first-class honours), IIA (upper second-class honours); or
- Have qualifications which in the opinion of the Monash Research Graduate School (MRGS) are equivalent or a satisfactory substitute.
- To meet the university’s English language requirements.
