About the Institution

University College of Technology Sarawak (UCTS) is the culmination of the State of Sarawak’s vision and commitment in establishing a world-class institution of higher learning to spearhead the development and production of technical human resources for the Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (SCORE).

UCTS is committed to facilitating students’ access to an affordable world-class university education that nurtures creative and entrepreneurial leaders through a broad education in science and technology while combining the career benefits of an applied approach for SCORE-related research and career opportunities.

Situated in Sibu, one of the main gateways into SCORE, UCTS’ campus is equipped with the latest state-of-the-art facilities to facilitate teaching, learning and research activities necessary in the production of graduates required by the industries within SCORE.

UCTS now also runs Transfer Degree Programme with five universities namely Murdoch University from Australia; University of Essex, University of Birmingham & University of Portsmouth from the United Kingdom; and University of Canterbury from New Zealand.

Scholarship and Financial Aid

This Sarawak government university is offering financial assistance for eligible students. At Foundation level, there is UCTS Foundation Sponsorship which is open to Malaysian and is divided into 3 tiers based on their result. Tier 1 is for those scoring SPM with 4A and above, they get Free Tuition and Hostel Fees and students need to maintain GPA 2.75 and above every semester. Tier 2 is for students scoring minimum 2A, 2B, and 1C and above in SPM, they get Free Tuition Fees and students need to maintain GPA 2.50 and above every semester. Students scoring with minimum 5C and above will be in Tier 3, they get 50% Tuition Fees discount and need to maintain GPA 2.0 and above every semester.

For Undergraduate Level, there is Partial Board of Director’s Sponsorship where the requirements are minimum CGPA 2.5 and above in Foundation/Diploma/Matriculation, 2B’s in STPM or 1A in UEC. Every semester students need to maintain CGPA 2.5 ≤ 3.0 to get RM750, CGPA ≥ 3.0 ≤ 3.5 to get RM1, 250 and CGPA ≥ 3.5 – 4.0 to get RM1, 750. Besides that, corporate bodies are offering scholarships to deserving students as well.

Recognition & Achievements

All programmes are approved by the Ministry of Education Malaysia (MOE) and Malaysian Qualification Agency (MQA).

Our Bachelor of Civil Engineering is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Council (EAC), allowing graduates to be recognised as practising engineers under the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM).

Our Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Council (EAC), allowing graduates to be recognised as practising engineers under the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM and also received accreditation from International Organization for Standardization (ISO).

Our Bachelor of Electrical Engineering is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Council (EAC); and allowing graduates to be recognised as practising engineers under the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM).

Our Bachelor of Quantity Surveying is recognised by the Board of Quantity Surveyors Malaysia (BQSM) and the Pacific Association of Quantity Surveyors (PAQS).

Our Bachelor of Science in Architecture has received Board of Architects Malaysia approval.

Our Bachelor of Accounting is recognises by Chartered Tax Institute of Malaysia (CTIM) and Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA).

Key Personnel

Professor Datuk Dr Khairuddin Ab Hamid Vice Chancellor , University of Technology Sarawak (UTS) Prof. Datuk Dr. Khairuddin Ab. Hamid or Prof K as he likes to be called graduated with Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering (Hons.) receiving Best Student Award at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. He then obtained Master of Science (Electrical Engineering) from University of Hawaii at Manoa, USA. Later in 1992, Prof K was conferred Doctor of Philosophy (Electronic Systems Engineering) from University of Essex, UK. He was also conferred an honorary doctorate from University of Essex. He began his career as an Assistant Lecturer of Faculty of Electrical Engineering at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. Prof K became the founding Head of Data Communications Laboratory and Telematics Research Group of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. Later, Prof K became the acting Head of Department of Communications Engineering for the Faculty of Electrical Engineering at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. Prof K then started his academic and management career in Sarawak as an Associate Professor of Faculty of Engineering at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas). Then, he became the Founding Dean of Faculty of Engineering at Unimas in 1993. Prof K became Unimas’s Vice Chancellor from 2008 until 2013. He finally continued as a Senior Professor (JUSA A) of the Department of Electronic Engineering in Unimas. In 2014, Prof K became the Vice Chancellor of University Malaysia of Computer Science and Engineering until January 2018. Later on, Prof K is appointed as the second Vice Chancellor of University College of Technology Sarawak from 1 st February 2018 until now. From time to time over his career, he had served as a guest speaker, member of technical expert, panel, consultant, external assessor at various institutions and Government Bodies. Prof K is recognized for his work in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) for rural development, especially the e-Bario project which won the Commonwealth Association of Public Administration and Management Award (CAPAM) in 2006.
