ESMOD KL Fashion Designers Unveils Latest Collections in ESMOD KL Fashion Show 2017

March 14, 2017 | Campus News

Ryan received ESMOD KL’s prestigious Best Fashion Design Award after the ESMOD KL Fashion Show 2017 from Paul, standing amidst fashion design celebrity Carven Ong and Moto Guo.

Astral éphémère’ was the theme that dictated the fashion runway at ESMOD Kuala Lumpur Fashion Show 2017. Held at Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre, 17 fashion designers from ESMOD Kuala Lumpur curated remarkable collections consisting of over 87 garments that featured inspirations representing ‘astral ephemeral’ or a supposed nonphysical realm of existence lasting for only a very short time.

It was the perfect theme that dressed the glamorous night. On the fashion runway, garments with different cuttings, colours, cultural inspirations, influences and personalities were showcased, revealing the varying but unique styles of ESMOD KL fashion designers. The fashion design show was also graced by the presence of international and local fashion design celebrities – Moto Guo and Carven Ong.

Fashion Designer Goh Yuan Qi who showcased the Yuankey Collection had her designs inspired by the Empress Wu Ze Tian from the Tang Dynasty who was the only female emperor in China. Like the strong woman the Empress was, Goh incorporated a masculine touch to her feminine collection to depict strong women and promote feminism.

Another star on the runway, the Manus X Machina, a collection created by fashion designer L. Linz, paraded one of her outfits in blue with large prints, a tall collar and outlandish sleeves that personified a futuristic element. This collection delivered a visual impact of an abstract theme inspired by what happens when fashion meets the future or what fashion is like in the age of technology.

The following collection that gave a nice touch to the ‘Astral éphémère’ theme was AUDREYKITTE, a collection that is influenced by Musubi, an old way of calling a guardian god in Japan, Japanese origami and its consistent geometrical shapes. This brand was developed by ESMOD KL fashion designer Audrey Yong.

Also a highlight in the fashion show was a collection by Ryan Alexander Tan Shaur-An. Ryan’s collection is inspired by the Japanese dark art and one of his designs featured a dark blue monstrous face that was part of a dress.

Fashion designer Hoo Keng Weng’s collection was called Singularity, influenced by the discovery of the gravitational wave by Albert Einstein back in 1916. His designs feature different jackets or overcoats of various sizes, materials and cuttings that emphasise a single line as the front line of his design.

These mesmerising collections were some of the highlights on the fashion runway and among the 17 different collections, each designed by its respective fashion designers. The ‘Astral éphémère’ Fashion Show is the latest fashion graduation show organised by ESMOD Kuala Lumpur to showcase its graduates final masterpieces.

After the graduation fashion show, ESMOD Course Instructor Paul Marchand, bestowed the Best Fashion Design Award to Ryan and Best Patternmaking Award to Hoo. These awards are prestigious awards presented by ESMOD International to top students in ESMOD annually to honour their achievements. These exemplary students have shown consistent dedication towards fashion design throughout their 3 years with ESMOD KL and they have been nominated by their lecturers to receive this award.

“We are very proud of what our students have achieved after undergoing our ESMOD Kuala Lumpur’s 3-year diploma course. Upon graduation, most of our students will be beginning their internship under the tutelage of top fashion designers in the country as part of a close-knit collaboration with ESMOD KL. This has been ESMOD KL’s practice since the course was launched years ago,” said Tan Chin Wee, Group Executive Director of ESMOD Kuala Lumpur.

Just like The One Academy’s 25-year-old commitment to the ‘Masters Train Masters’ coaching philosophy, ESMOD Kuala Lumpur students are nurtured with the best Parisian fashion design education through comprehensive syllabuses that cover not only the creative-based fashion designing, but also the high level practical techniques of patternmaking which are led by experienced international fashion designers, most of whom hail of Paris, the fashion capital city of the world.
