Miri – 14 July 2017 – Curtin University, Malaysia (Curtin Malaysia) will be holding a ‘Curtin Info Day’ at its campus from 10.00 am to 4.00 pm on 15 July for potential students and their parents who would like to obtain more information about the university and its Semester 2 intake.
The event will include course consultation with officers from the university’s Marketing Department and academic staff of its three faculties, namely the Faculty of Humanities, Faculty of Business and Faculty of Engineering and Science; as well as consultation with loan and scholarship officers, and sharing sessions with current students and alumni.
Attendees will also get to view projects by current students to give them an idea of studies in particular programmes, and go on a tour of the campus.
The Semester 2 (July/August) intake for undergraduate and foundation programmes is currently in progress. Classes for undergraduate programmes will commence on 31 July and foundation programmes on 14 August 2017.
Attendance is free of charge and potential students are advised to bring along their actual or forecasted results for on-the-spot assessment and application purposes.
Those with outstanding results in the SPM, UEC, O-Levels, STPM or A-Levels examinations are encouraged to find out about the Curtin Malaysia Merit Scholarships offering new enrolees substantial waivers on their first-year tuition fees.
It might also be worthwhile finding out more about Curtin’s global university and subject rankings as they are a reflection of the quality of education and courses offered at Curtin Malaysia, being Curtin’s largest international campus and hub for education and research in the region.
Students at Curtin Malaysia study courses identical to those at Curtin’s main campus in Perth, Australia and at other Curtin offshore campuses in Singapore and Dubai. Furthermore, they get a similar learning experience and the same student support as other Curtin students and the degrees they earn in Malaysia are conferred directly by Curtin University. At present, it has close to 5,000 students from some 50 countries.
Curtin University rose significantly to 262nd position in the world in the recent QS World University Ranking (QSWUR) this year, up from 306th in 2016-17, and was placed 15th nationally. It is also ranked in the top two per cent of universities worldwide and 10th in Australia in the highly regarded Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) 2016.
Curtin ranked in 21 subjects in the latest ShanghaiRanking Global Ranking of Academic Subjects released this month for 2017 and is placed in the top 100 in the world in five subjects, including 19th in the world for Mining and Mineral Engineering and 45th for Chemical Engineering.
In the 2017 QS World University Rankings by Subject, Curtin has 16 subjects ranked in the top 200 worldwide, including second in the world for Mineral and Mining Engineering, up 17 places from last year. Overall, it achieved ranking in 25 subjects, seven more than last year, and ranked as a top 100 university in seven subjects.
Meanwhile, in the 2016 ARWU Field ranking, Curtin featured in the world’s top 150 for Engineering/Technology and Computer Sciences and top 200 for Natural Sciences and Mathematics.
