Programme Structure and Specification

Study Mode

The UTM Foundation Programme is offered in a full time mode. Students attend lectures, complete assignments, undergo periodical tests and end-of-semester examinations, similar to their counterparts in other pre-university education pathways

The total credit hours of the UTM Foundation Programme is 50 credit hours. In the first semester, students will take four subjects with a total of 10 credit hours, while in the second and third semester, students will take 7 subjects with a total of 20 credit hours for each semester

Assessment

Laboratory work:
  • 100% Course work
Skill acquisition (Lab incorporated):
  • 50%- 60% Course work
  • 40%- 50% Final Examination

Entry Requirements

Malaysian Applicants
  • Pass SPM or equivalent with credit in at least 5 (Five) subjects including Mathematics and 2 (Two) Science subjects; OR
  • Pass O Level with a minimum grade B in 3 (Three) subjects including Mathematics and 2 (Two) Science subjects; OR
  • Other equivalent qualification recognized by the Malaysian government
International Applicants
  • Pass O Level or other equivalent qualification; OR
  • SMU 3/SMA with average grade of 5-5.9 (for applicants from Indonesia) ; OR
  • Other equivalent school qualifications recognized by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA)
  • Obtained Grade A- in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry and English Language qualification equivalent to Cambridge O Level 1119, minimum Grade 6.

Admission Requirements

NON-Engineering Diploma Programmes

The requirements for admission to a Diploma programme leading to the award of a Diploma of the University are:

A) General Minimum Entry Requirements

Obtained a pass in Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) or equivalent qualifications, with a minimum of FIVE (5) credits (GRADE C) inclusive of a credit in Bahasa Melayu, and a pass (GRADE E) in History at the SPM level.

B) Specific Requirements
  1. Obtained credits (GRADE C) in the following subjects:
    • Mathematics
    • THREE (3) other subjects (NOT inclusive of previously listed subjects with credits)
  2. Obtained a pass (GRADE E) in English Language.

Candidates for Diploma in Architecture programme need to pass a test and an interview carried out by the university.

OR
A) General Minimum Entry Requirements

Obtained a pass in Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) or equivalent qualifications, with a minimum of FIVE (5) credits (GRADE C) inclusive of a credit in Bahasa Melayu, and a pass (GRADE E) in History at the SPM level.

B) Specific Requirements
  1. Obtained credits (GRADE C) in THREE (3) other subjects (NOT inclusive of previously listed subjects with credits).
  2. Obtained credits (GRADE C) in the following subjects:
    • Mathematics
    • English Language
  3. Obtained a pass in Pre-Diploma (non-Engineering), and obtained credits (GRADE C) in all subjects, with a minimum of:
    • CGPA 2.50 in the programme of Diploma in Computer Science.
    • CGPA 2.00 in the programmes of other than Diploma in Computer Science.

Students who are admitted to the university without credits in Mathematics (for the programmes of Diploma in Computer Science and Diploma in Quantity Surveying) are required to take Mathematics at the SPM level and obtain a minimum of a credit (GRADE C) before graduating in order to obtain the award of a diploma conferred by the University

Engineering Diploma Programmes

The requirements for admission to a Diploma programme leading to the award of a Diploma of the University are:

A) General Minimum Entry Requirements

Obtained a pass in Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) or equivalent qualifications, with a minimum of FIVE (5) credits (GRADE C) inclusive of a credit in Bahasa Melayu, and a pass (GRADE E) in History at the SPM level.

B) Specific Requirements
  1. Obtained credits (GRADE C) in the following subjects:
    • Mathematics
    • Physics
    • ONE (1) of the subjects in Science/Technical/Vocational education
    • ONE (1) other subject (NOT inclusive of previously listed subjects with credits)
  2. Obtained a pass (GRADE E) in the following subjects:
    • English Language
    • Additional Mathematics
  3. Not having colour blindness or any disabilities which may hinder practical work.
OR
A) General Minimum Entry Requirements

Obtained a pass in Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) or equivalent qualifications, with a minimum of FOUR (4) credits (GRADE C) inclusive of a credit in Bahasa Melayu, and a pass (GRADE E) in History at the SPM level.

B) Specific Requirements

1. Obtained credits (GRADE C) in THREE (3) other subjects (NOT inclusive of previously listed subjects with credits).

2. Obtained a pass (GRADE E) in the following subjects:

  • Mathematics
  • Additional Mathematics
  • Physics / Chemistry
  • English Language

3. Obtained a pass in Pre-Diploma (Engineering), and obtained credits (GRADE C) in all subjects, with a minimum CGPA of 2.50.

Students who are admitted to the university without credits in Mathematics are required to take Mathematics at the SPM level and obtain a minimum of a credit (GRADE C) before graduating in order to obtain the award of a diploma conferred by the University.
