Chemistry starts with the study of matter and the changes or reactions that occur in it. Reaction can, in turn, produce a variety of products that have a simple and complex molecular structure. Atoms form molecules and then molecules form compounds, bodies and substances whether living or non-living. The nature of atoms affects the formation and properties of matter which may be in the form of compounds, minerals and rocks, cells, DNA, composites, polymers, pesticides and so on. Technological and computer developments allow the structure of a molecule and its material to be shaped and its nature or behavior simulated. In other words, the material can be designed according to the needs of the user or its application. As a result, chemistry has crossed the line between fields because almost all basic sciences such as biology, geology, agriculture, physics, materials science, manufacturing, chemical engineering and so on need chemistry. Thus, the role of chemists in the new millennium is more dynamic and needed in many fields and careers that are now more multidisciplinary.

Objektif utama program ini dirangka adalah untuk memberikan ilmu kimia yang menyeluruh dan terkini supaya dapat digunakan dalam menghadapi cabaran untuk memenuhi keperluan tenaga kerja negara. Pembelajaran kimia akan menitikberatkan pengetahuan asas dalam kimia fizik, organik dan tak organik. Aspek kimia gunaan pula merangkumi kimia analisis, polimer, alam sekitar, farmasi, pemangkinan dan ilmu kimia semasa. Peringkat 1000 dan 2000 merupakan tahap pembinaan ilmu asas kimia. Pengukuhan dan penghayatan ilmu kimia akan dapat diterapkan melalui kursus berbentuk aplikasi dan terkini di peringkat 3000. Pelajar kimia juga didedahkan kepada teknik dan instrumentasi terkini dalam analisis kimia semasa amali dan latihan ilmiah di mana pelajar akan melakukan penyelidikan di bawah penyeliaan ahli akademik. Latihan industri juga digalakkan supaya pelajar dapat menimba pengalaman komunikasi pengurusan dan kemahiran dalam suasana di tempat kerja. Siswazah kimia kini boleh ditemui dalam pelbagai bidang pekerjaan baik di industri mahu pun di agensi kerajaan.

Obtained at least a Grade C (NGMP 2.00) at STPM level in the following subjects:

• Chemistry

• Mathematics T / Further Mathematics T

• Physics / Biology

MATERIAL OF MINIMUM MATERIALS

Must have at least a Grade C (NGMP 2.00) at the Matriculation / Basic level in any of the following two subjects:

• Chemistry / Engineering Chemistry

• Mathematics / Engineering Mathematics

• Physics / Engineering Physics / Biology
