Education Philosophy

MCKL is known for its academic excellence and affordable fees, and consistently producing well-rounded individuals who can readily excel in society. The College also offers scholarships ranging from 15% to 100% and provides financial aid to many deserving students.

Its mission, “To nurture a community where excellence, in all its forms, is celebrated; and where individuals come alive to their God-given ability to make a unique difference in the world” is the main driver for its staff and students. They are grounded by MCKL’s ten core values; honour God, respect yourself, respect others, respect property, cherish relationships, cherish nature, cherish our nation, celebrate excellence, celebrate diversity, celebrate volunteerism.

The Service Learning course is an educational experience that requires participation in an organised service activity to meet identified community needs. Students reflect on their service activity through writing, discussion, and reading to gain a better understanding of their course content, broaden their appreciation of the discipline, and enhance their sense of civic responsibility. Students learn through hands-on interaction and experience, and relate these to their course material via discussion and written assignments.

Character Formation on the other hand touches barely on academics but focuses heavily instead on fundamental aspects of life. Students will be challenged to rethink their positions and question their values regarding what it means to be human and what it means to be in a community. Topics that are discussed are usually taboo, such as pornography, disability, and racism. Contemporary issues are brought forward in class, and discussions are guided to spur critical thinking and creative problem-solving. The class focuses on changing not the behaviour, but the hearts and minds of students, asking them what it means to live a good life.

Students at MCKL can be assured that the staff are ever willing to help. MCKL promotes a family-like culture and a safe space for students to grow and experiment. Many activities involve both students and lecturers, such as the Orientation Camp, and annual student balls, and alumni from years prior would still frequently visit their lecturers.

Student Testimonials

Tee Jia En

ACCA, MCKL RCE Capital Berhad

I first completed my F1 paper at a tuition provider and was then moving around different colleges to complete my ACCA studies according to the lecturers’ capability, but after completing my F6, F7 and F8 in MCKL, I decided to continue my ACCA journey here due to the facilities, environment and especially the many friends I made.

Jilian Tai Ju-En

Australian Matriculation, MCKL Physiotherapy, Curtin University, Australia

I was convinced to join MCKL for its strong reputation and affordable fees. Starting off with the AUSMAT programme, I begin to see college life is about both learning and developing a robust social life. I successfully achieved ATAR 97.85, while also emerging as frisbee champions at the Malaysia University Ultimate Championships 2019.

Jesselyn Sin Jun Yi

Cambridge A Level, MCKL Monash University Australia

My choice to study in MCKL was truly an excellent decision as I had dedicated lecturers who encouraged me to excel, leading to me being awarded the Cambridge Outstanding Learners Award for the October/ November 2019 examination series as Top in the World for Chemistry AS level. I will recommend MCKL without hesitation to any prospective students.

Vijayan Ramasami

Diploma in Social Work

MCKL’s programme has helped me look at social work from a wider perspective. Prior to this, I solely depend on my limited experience and basic internal training skills. The course has given me the ability to improve my practice at every level, right from initial contact, assessment, case planning, residential care, community-based recovery and beyond.

Sarah Marie Alicia Anthony

American Degree Transfer Program, MCKL Theology & Criminology, Loyola University Chicago, USA

[email protected] has given me a realistic expectation of how education in the United States is. We were taught and graded with an equivalent standard, preparing us for the quality and critical thinking level abroad. MCKL also prepared us in terms of both U.S. academics and lifestyle.

Ranimah Oransum

Diploma in Early Childhood Education

Despite starting school only at the age of nine, I now have the highest education qualification in my family from Kampung Perupuk Pitas, Sabah. Thanks to MCKL, I now have a Diploma in Early Childhood Education and am currently able to work in the city to support my family.
