TAR UMT was established as Tunku Abdul Rahman College (TAR College) in 1969 and subsequently Tunku Abdul Rahman University College (TAR UC) in 2013. Its latest identity as TAR UMT is adopted following from the upgrade to university status in 2022.
For over five decades, our Beyond Education philosophy aims to provide our students with a learning experience that is beyond academic knowledge and skills. TAR UMT Main Campus is strategically located in the capital city of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Meanwhile, its branches in Penang, Perak, Johor, Pahang, and Sabah are purpose-built complete with state-of-the-art infrastructure and facilities for learning and teaching.
We offer programmes ranging from Foundation, diploma, undergraduate, and postgraduate levels that are widely recognised by the academia and industries for their depth and breadth of scope and academic rigour. We offer more than 200 programmes covering a wide range of disciplines from accountancy, finance, business, economics to engineering, built environment, applied sciences, ICT as well as mass communication, creative arts, social science, and hospitality management.
With an alumni body of more than 300,000, many of our graduates have made their mark in the world as industry captains, successful entrepreneurs, and national leaders. Today, TAR UMT has a student population of more than 32,000 including international students from more than 30 countries.
The University has been conferred numerous scholastic awards and recognitions such as Premier Digital Tech Institution status by the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) since 2017, achieved the Competitive category for SETARA 2022, and is the first institution to be named Esports Academy of the Year at the inaugral Malaysia Esports Awards
A Vibrant Experience at TAR UMT
The TAR UMT Merit Scholarship is awarded to outstanding Malaysian students in the form of tuition fee waiver of up to 100%.
Candidates who meet the scholarship criteria will be automatically offered the Merit Scholarship (Terms & Conditions Apply) upon admission.
