The UTM Foundation Programme offers students an alternative choice of pre-university education, other than matriculation, the Malaysian Higher School Certificate (STPM), and other foundation programmes recognised by the Malaysian government.
It provides students with the basic knowledge in Engineering, Science and Social Science that will prepare them for their next education pathway in UTM, through the UTM International Degree Programme (UTM-IDP).
The programme is conducted in full time mode over the course of one year. The students’ academic load is spread over a course of three semesters (52 weeks) with several courses being delivered and assessed in each Semester.
Intake for new student occurs twice per year, i.e. July and December Intake.

The diploma programmes have been offered since the inception of UTM under their respective faculties. However, in June 1995, a new centre called the Centre for Diploma Studies (Pusat Pengajian Diploma) was established to offer all these programmes under one roof at the UTM Kuala Lumpur campus.
The Centre for Diploma Studies were renamed as the Science and Technology College UTM (Kolej Sains dan Teknologi, KST UTM) on 15 May 2006. KST aims at producing trained professionals who are skilled and efficient in engineering, science and technology management. During the early years, CST offered eight diploma programmes with 4600 enrolment.
Starting 1 June 2010, all UTM diploma programmes are run by the School of Professional and Continuing Education (SPACE), UTM. At present time, it offers a total of 16 diploma programmes, with a student headcount of over 1,900.

Part time programme is a programme usually offered off-campus at selected study centres. The lectures are usually conducted classes during weekends. The program is open to all Malaysian Citizens who are qualified.

Universiti Teknologi Malaysia International Degree Programme (UTM-IDP) is a Bachelor Degree Programme offered by Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) for Malaysian and international students. The programme provides opportunities for the students to experience a world class teaching and learning environment.
As a leading Entrepreneurial Research University in Engineering, Science and Technology, UTM provides qualified and experienced academic staff and excellent facilities to create a conducive learning environment. Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) – Japan International Degree Programme (UTM-Japan IDP) is a Bachelor Degree Programme offered by Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) for Malaysian and international students. The programme provides opportunities for students to experience a world class teaching and learning environment. UTM-Japan IDP offers a Japanese-oriented engineering education (i.e. incorporating Japanese concepts such as Monozukuri and iKohza research based) allowing students to experience global education while enhancing their personal and professional developments.
