Institution Overview

Introduction

RCSI & UCD Malaysia Campus is Malaysia’s first accredited private medical school*, owned and established by the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) and University College Dublin (UCD), two world-renowned medical universities in Ireland.

Recently, the College was awarded University status by the Malaysian Ministry of Education (MOE) as a Foreign University Branch Campus, one of the highest levels for a foreign-owned institution in Malaysia. RUMC remains as the only Irish University in the region.

The University is recognised by the Malaysian Medical Council (MMC) and Irish Medical Council (IMC) as graduating high performing doctors. Students are recognised for practice in the USA, Canada and others by the ECFMG and FAIRMER with the institution listed as an Irish medical school in the World Directory of Medical Schools (WDOMS).

Academic Strengths
The standards and quality of programmes at PMC are ensured through an Academic Dean and 5 full-time Heads of Department, renowned in their areas of Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Paediatrics, and Psychiatry, together with full -time senior lecturers. In addition, PMC has also found two international partner universities in RCSI and UCD, in which the former is one of only four Royal Colleges of Surgeons in Britain but it alone operates an undergraduate medical school while the latter is the largest university in Ireland with over 19,000 students spread over ten faculties.

Both medical schools thus have a long history and proven ability in the training of doctors and surgeons to internationally-accepted levels of excellence. Today, more than 5,000 of their graduates are practising worldwide and are highly regarded in the medical profession.

Academic Facilities & Resources

The modern and well-equipped purpose-built college campus located along Jalan Sepoy Lines houses lecture theatres, a two storey library, multimedia room, clinical skills laboratory, research laboratory, seminar rooms , student recreation room, a surau and cafeteria.

Meanwhile the Penang Hospital, which is a 5-minute walk away from the campus, is our main teaching hospital. It is the second largest public government hospital with over 1,200 beds. It has all the major specialist departments which will provide an ideal environment for our students to do their clinical training within a local context.

Student Services & Activities
The Student Association acts as a general support on issues that may be raised by the students and organises activities for the Penang Medical College student community. Students are encouraged to be involved in sports and recreational activities for relaxation and enjoyment. A counsellor is available to students who wish to discuss any personal, social or development problems that may arise.
