Background of Institution

International Open College (IOC)

Established in 2010, International Open College (IOC) is a private college under METEOR Learning Sdn Bhd, a sister company of Open University Malaysia (OUM). IOC is located in the heart of Kuala Lumpur and was rebranded in November 2012 to provide full-time programmes primarily for fresh school leavers. IOC leverages on the experience of OUM in the following areas:

Academic Strengths

IOC programmes have been approved by the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia and fully accredited by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA). IOC lecturers come from a strong and experienced academic background with master degree or PhD qualifications in the related field. IOC also leverages on the expertise of OUM especially its subject matter experts and learning resources made available for the use of the students.

Programme Outline

Foundation in Arts (FIA) - N/010/3/0234 (MQA/PA2481) 04/19

The Foundation in Arts programme equips students with the necessary foundation to pursue their studies in business or mass communication. It is designed to provide students with the skills they need for a smooth transition into an undergraduate course in the arts and social sciences. The programme comprises a comprehensive selection of core subjects that enhance students’ academic knowledge in the respective areas of study and at the same time, develop their understanding and appreciation of other basic subjects. Upon successful completion of this programme, students are eligible to enrol at IOC, OUM or other universities’ degree programmes, creating a seamless transition towards pursuing a future in business and mass communication.

Diploma in Management (DIM) - N/345/4/0008 (MQA/FA0213) 12/15

Business and government entities are constantly expanding their operations. Hence, skills like planning, organising, leading and controlling are essential to ensure that tasks and duties can be performed effectively. This programme equips students with multidimensional knowledge and skills to be successful at their workplace and excel at their respective professions.

Diploma in Human Resource Management (DHRM) - N/345/4/0009 (MQA/FA0222) 12/15

In line with the nation's growing economy, a trained workforce that contributes in the economic sector is in high demand. This programme is designed to provide students with the knowledge, skills and understanding of human resource activities which will enable them to carry out their tasks effectively.

Diploma in Accountancy (DIA) - N/344/4/0031 (MQA/FA0503) 04/16

This programme focuses on the concepts, theories and practices of accounting. It enhances competency in accounting, IT and management to support the work of professional accountants. By enrolling in this course, you will also develop leadership, critical thinking and communication skills.

Diploma in Mass Communication (DMC) - N/321/4/0028 (MQA/FA0730) 08/16

This programme focuses on a broad spectrum of mass communication areas which includes journalism, public relations, advertising, broadcasting and media design. It will also serve as the catalyst to further develop leadership, critical thinking and communication skills, which are critical in today's world. Students will be exposed to both the practical and conceptual skills of mass communication, which will enable them to excel in all areas related to the field.

Bachelor of Management (Hons.) (BIM) - N/345/6/0328 (MQA/PA2276) 07/18

This programme aims to meet the country's growing demand for professionals in management. The programme encompasses various facets of management as well as emerging disciplines of a global and technology-driven economy. In addition, the programme allows students to acquire in-depth knowledge in selected fields of management.

Outline of Scholarships/Financial Aid

International Open College (IOC)

Yayasan Canselor Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to enrolling students in recognition of their excellence in academic and extra-curricular activities. Successful candidates will be awarded either full or partial scholarship on the tuition fees. The scholarship is open to all Malaysian citizens who must meet the following requirements:

  • A minimum of 5 credits in the SPM/SPMV results
  • Actively involved in school or in extra-curricular activities such as sports, societies, clubs or uniformed bodies

Second Opportunity Scholarship (SOS)

This scholarship is awarded to current students of IOC in recognition of their excellence in academic and extra-curricular activities for that particular semester. Successful candidates will be awarded either full or partial scholarship on the tuition fees. Applicants of this scholarship must meet the following requirements:

  • Full passes in all subjects
  • Minimum GPA of 3.5 of that particular semester

Zakat (Alms)

The Federal Territory Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP) has approved and appointed Open University Malaysia (OUM) as the wakalah or representative on behalf of MAIWP to distribute zakat to its Muslim students. The zakat is open to all Muslim students pursuing a programme of study at IOC.
