Background of Institution

Malaysia's global university sets the trend in innovative creative education

Established in 1991, the Limkokwing University of Creative Technology has since risen to become an innovative force in global creative education, one that is driving change in the way young people are educated and, in the process producing 21st century industry-ready world class graduates with the ability and skills to lead social and economic transformation across the globe.

The University's international campus network now embraces 12 campuses in nine countries across three continents. This network includes Malaysia, Indonesia, China, Lesotho, Swaziland, Sierra Leone, Cambodia, Botswana and the United Kingdom.

We have around 30,000 students from over 150 different countries. At our parent campus in Cyberjaya, Kuala Lumpur, over 75% of the students are international – a reality that probably not one of the world's leading universities could emulate. In essence the University has 'Brought the World to Malaysia'.

This significant achievement was recognised by the Prime Minister of Malaysia Dato Sri Dr Mohd Najib Tun Abdul Razak, when on 12 May 2015 he designated the University as The Global University of Malaysia “for its outstanding achievement in establishing Malaysia as a leading player in the field of global education.” On the same day, the Prime Minister also conferred upon the University the title University of Edu Tourism in recognition of its achievement “in attracting youths as well as academic professionals from 200 countries to Malaysia.”

However, underpinning the phenomenal popularity of the University amongst international students is the recognition that our courses are innovative, stimulating and designed to better enable graduates to meet the challenges of the new economic world order.

Global Recognition - Numerous Awards and Accolades

Over the last four years, the University has received more than 200 awards for creativity and innovation in education from the United States of America, the United Kingdom, Europe, Asia and Africa.

Three in particular are worth mentioning. First, in 2009 we were awarded the designation of University of the Future by QS Apple (Asia Pacific Professional Leaders in Education). In April 2012, we were designated by the Ministry of Higher Education in Malaysia as a University of Innovation - a much sought after accolade. Third, in July 2013 when visiting our London campus, the Prime Minister of Malaysia awarded us with the designation of University of Transformation.

The University's award winning website www.limkokwing.net attracts 300 million 'hits' a year from around 229 different countries and territories – tangible evidence of the global appeal of our programmes and ethos.

Further, Limkokwing University has recently moved into the Top Ten of the world's Most Popular Universities on Facebook & Twitter.

Since its inception, the University has been creativity orientated. Accordingly, we offer a comprehensive range of innovative degree and postgraduate programmes across a swathe of creative industry disciplines.

Here at Limkokwing, the emphasis is very much in encouraging creative expression and unlike other traditional Universities students are positively encouraged to participate in various competitions, events, fashion shows, performing arts, sport, music and fund raising campaigns to bring out the best in them. For example, in 2012 we were the first Malaysian University to participate in the internationally renowned London Fashion Week.

The experience, knowledge and skills that students gain give them the confidence, vision and determination to become achievers in their chosen fields of study.

Industry Ready Graduates

Limkokwing University is renowned for its revolutionary concept – of INDUSITY – a word coined from an amalgamation of the words industry and University – that enables students to work on real world projects with global corporate brands who are our industry partners such as Hewlett Packard, Maxis, TV3, L'Oreal and Lewre among others to obtain invaluable hands-on industry experience.

We have also established an array of business units ranging from hair design (Headlines), fitness centre (Fittofly), printing ( Wings Art & Print Shop) to F&B (Makanlah!) where students obtain solid, practical industry experience to broaden their mind sets and facilitate the transition from University to high income careers when they graduate.

World in One Campus

Another of the many distinguishing features of Limkokwing University is that it provides students with global exposure so that they gain wider knowledge and insights into how the real world interacts.

As mentioned, over 75% of the students at our Cyberjaya campus are international from over 150 countries. This in itself is an educational experience whereby the multi-cultural and multi-lingual environment encourages and facilitates a cross-pollination of ideas, thoughts and friendships to flourish. When our students graduate they invariably have a network of global friends and contacts to leverage with as they move forward to become the next generation of world leaders and captains of industry.

We are the only local University to have taken Malaysian education throughout the world a process which is ongoing as we are all set to establish campuses in Namibia, Switzerland, New York, Mauritius and the Maldives.

Unique Global Experience

By virtue of our global presence and reach we are uniquely able to offer our students unrivalled global learning opportunities including Study Abroad and Global Campus. The Study Abroad option is the opportunity for students from other Limkokwing campuses to register for one semester at Kuala Lumpur, London or Phnom Penh (and others) to take modules which count (with full credit) towards their Limkokwing degree or diploma at their home campus.

Limkokwing London has also become the focal point and academic hub for the University's unique and highly successful 'Global Campus' programme. The primary purpose of Global Campus is to provide students in higher education in Asia and Africa with a short (four weeks) but intense UK and western oriented stimulating and career enhancing programme which will better enable them to compete for employment with the leading corporate brands across the world. Hundreds of students each year come from over 50 different countries to London to avail themselves of this exciting and rewarding opportunity.

The Limkokwing global experience enables our students to interact and study with students from across the globe and this experience moulds them into becoming the most international, most confident and most accomplished of graduates.

University Partners

Limkokwing University has an extensive network of 282 university partners from 100 countries. Our degrees and diplomas are today delivered in over 30 countries across the globe. In academic year 2015/16 we will be launching a new set of UK degree programmes in Cyberjaya and Kuching with our new UK University partner Southampton Solent University.

President, LIMKOKWING University of Creative Technology

He was 29 when he set up his first business — Wings Creativity Consultants — in 1975. It was a bold move because he was muscling into an industry controlled by expatriates and multi-nationals. His perseverance, talent and skills, within a short time catapulted his business to the top rung. He was wooed by an international network and his enterprise grew to become a global business through a merger with the third largest communication network in the world. He broke away to form his own integrated communications organisation that created a name for itself for outstanding work.

He is one Asia's most well-known communications strategists. He built his campaigns on meaningful messages. Companies, government and humanitarian organisations sourced in one man a strategist who was not only highly creative but one who was able to move people, change mindsets, touch the hearts of people and shape opinions. He worked closely with the Malaysian government delving into cause marketing and relationship building. His abilities made him the perfect person to help South Africa as the country prepared for its first democratic election.

He is driven by a concern for the next generation and his emphasis on creativity as a competitive edge is now receiving its due recognition after more than a decade of championing its value to business and life.He changed mindsets helping people to grasp the elusive concept of creativity and thus enabled young people to convince their parents of building careers in creative professions. He brought the world into the classroom through smart partnerships with some of the world's most established and reputable universities and colleges. He is well respected in the international academic community as a trendsetter who is helping to evolve education to new levels.

He takes a special interest in the next generation, making time for them despite his hectic work schedule. He sees in them the future of the country and gives importance to their training, grooming them to become leaders. The students of his University find inspiration in his words and many have developed into exemplary young people able to multi-task. As a result, he has a corps of young executives who have taken charge of the University's marketing as well as creative content development for industry.

Being a creative person he has always looked for novel ways to make learning more meaningful to the student. He has taken the non-traditional approach and in the process brought fresh new thinking to the educational process. He set up incubation units to develop new businesses that are natural extensions to the University's programmes. Students are then able to apply their skills in practical ways and, in the process, pick up entrepreneurial capabilities, as these businesses will be franchised to interested students.

Why did I choose Limkokwing? The reputation that precedes it, and the international recognized degrees from such university as Curtin. It saves cost and I like the small teacher-student ratio - only 20 in a class. Adapting to Malaysia is no problem at all as there is no language barrier. English is widely spoken here. I enjoy the Malaysian lifestyle and the warm people, the large variety of food, and the modern infrastructure in KL.
