Here at Limkokwing, the emphasis is on creative education and students are encouraged to take part in extra-curricular activities that include competitions, industry projects and events that are fashion-related, performing arts-based or sports-oriented. All students are involved in the University’s Heal The World initiative that raises funds to bring medical aid for those in conflict-affected regions or emergency items for victims of disaster-hit areas.

Limkokwing University gives importance to industry and has created INDUSITY - a word coined from joining the words industry and university – where students work on projects with well-known industry partners such as Hewlett Packard, L’OReal, Maxis, TV3, Apple, Samsung, Microsoft, Astro and Lewre, among others to obtain real hands-on industry experience.

Emphasis on industry has led to the creation of business units ranging from hair design (Headlines), fitness (Fitofly), printing (Wings Art & Print Shop) to F&B (Wings Coffee) as well as web and video units where students access solid industry experience that broaden their minds and facilitate transition into high income careers when they graduate.

As Malaysia’s and arguably the world’s most globalised university, the Cyberjaya campus is home to about 9,000 students of which 80 per cent are from 150 countries.

Academic Facilities

Wings Radio

Manned by students, the campus radio station, Wings Radio broadcasts news and music on campus. It is not only a communication source but also an entertainment avenue.

Students from all faculties are encouraged to use the station for training too. Their participation enables them to build self-confidence and train as future disc jockeys or newscasters.

High-End Computer Lab

The university boasts state-of-the-art computer labs for learning and research. Students from various faculties are groomed to use a large assortment of software for their studies or assignments, regardless of the field of work.

In a congenial atmosphere, lecturers teach their students the ropes in animation, multimedia, graphic or product design, interior design or architecture, landscaping and games design.

Fashion Workshop

The Faculty of Fashion and Retail Design runs a workshop that allows students to gain hands-on training in the various processes of fashion design – from sewing and cutting to fitting and styling. Practical classes are conducted here.

An ideal place for brainstorming and research, the workshop is where students have designed award-winning clothes and uniforms for industry partners.

Library

The Limkokwing campus comes equipped with professional facilities that include an eLibrary with a collection of more than 20,000 books, thousands of journals, periodicals and articles. It’s a one-stop centre for students.

The library is located on the first floor of block B. It occupies an area of 2,000sq.m. and has a seating capacity of 500. Apart from the open library, there is a silent study room, an eLibrary room, a discussion room and an AV room in the library.

Photography Lab

In compliance with industry standards, the university’s Photography Lab provides students with the latest facilities and equipment for photography. It is furnished with portraiture and still life studios, classrooms and a lounge.

Tutorials are conducted regularly in the lab. Professional tips are also given on the techniques of photography.

Sound & Music Design Studio

The Sound & Music Design Studio is fitted with high-tech, digital equipment such as Digidesign Protools HD3 Accel, Digidesign 192 I/O, Digidesign Pre Amp, Soundcrafts, Otari, Genelec Surround Speaker Set and quality sound studios.

The studios enable the students to produce professional quality music, record voiceovers and mix in 5.1 surround sound for film and TV.

Dance Studio

As the University offers performance arts where dance performance and choreography form part of the modules, a professionally equipped studio provides the setting for students.

Multiple Camera Production Studio (MCP)

MCP studio is a live production studio and exhibition centre where Communications students get to host television talk shows and learn Realtime Chroma Key. The real television station environment and production house.

Architectural Materials Resource Centre An Innovative Approach to Knowledge Transfer

This centre is a unique showcase of a wide range of materials used by architects and interior designers in construction. The establishment of this centre was inspired by the University’s philosophy of providing “real world” learning to our students. Here students are able to touch and feel the materials used in construction and thereby be able to form more accurate decisions when planning their assignments and projects.

The University works closely with industry to obtain feedback on new trends and whenever possible to acquire actual materials to educate our students. Within the centre students are able to access materials that include floor finishings such as tiles, stones, granite, carpet and spray tiles. They will also be able to study first hand about wall coverings, ceiling and light fixtures, ironmongery and paint, timber, steel and glass items used in the industry

University Ambassadors

The Ambassadors are an international group of students appointed by the presidential office, hand-picked to perform specific duties on and off the campus. They serve the interests of fellow students, especially newcomers who need help in their adjustment to campus life at Limkokwing.

The Ambassadors receive visitors, brief parents about the course of study and introduce them to campus facilities. They organise cultural activities, play host at important events and take challenges in their stride along with other students on campus.

Cheerful and zealous, these Ambassadors proudly serve as university guides, event organisers, campus speakers, masters-of-ceremony, communicators, administrative assistants, researchers and even performers. They are always ready to lend a hand in social, cultural, welfare and education activities. In many respects, they are the gems of the University. Their presence is strongly felt at the marketing department, on stage, among freshies and at important functions.

President, LIMKOKWING University of Creative Technology

He was 29 when he set up his first business — Wings Creativity Consultants — in 1975. It was a bold move because he was muscling into an industry controlled by expatriates and multi-nationals. His perseverance, talent and skills, within a short time catapulted his business to the top rung. He was wooed by an international network and his enterprise grew to become a global business through a merger with the third largest communication network in the world. He broke away to form his own integrated communications organisation that created a name for itself for outstanding work.

He is one Asia's most well-known communications strategists. He built his campaigns on meaningful messages. Companies, government and humanitarian organisations sourced in one man a strategist who was not only highly creative but one who was able to move people, change mindsets, touch the hearts of people and shape opinions. He worked closely with the Malaysian government delving into cause marketing and relationship building. His abilities made him the perfect person to help South Africa as the country prepared for its first democratic election.

He is driven by a concern for the next generation and his emphasis on creativity as a competitive edge is now receiving its due recognition after more than a decade of championing its value to business and life.He changed mindsets helping people to grasp the elusive concept of creativity and thus enabled young people to convince their parents of building careers in creative professions. He brought the world into the classroom through smart partnerships with some of the world's most established and reputable universities and colleges. He is well respected in the international academic community as a trendsetter who is helping to evolve education to new levels.

He takes a special interest in the next generation, making time for them despite his hectic work schedule. He sees in them the future of the country and gives importance to their training, grooming them to become leaders. The students of his University find inspiration in his words and many have developed into exemplary young people able to multi-task. As a result, he has a corps of young executives who have taken charge of the University's marketing as well as creative content development for industry.

Being a creative person he has always looked for novel ways to make learning more meaningful to the student. He has taken the non-traditional approach and in the process brought fresh new thinking to the educational process. He set up incubation units to develop new businesses that are natural extensions to the University's programmes. Students are then able to apply their skills in practical ways and, in the process, pick up entrepreneurial capabilities, as these businesses will be franchised to interested students.

Why did I choose Limkokwing? The reputation that precedes it, and the international recognized degrees from such university as Curtin. It saves cost and I like the small teacher-student ratio - only 20 in a class. Adapting to Malaysia is no problem at all as there is no language barrier. English is widely spoken here. I enjoy the Malaysian lifestyle and the warm people, the large variety of food, and the modern infrastructure in KL.
