Background

University College TATI (UC TATI), formerly known as Terengganu Advanced Technical Institute (TATI), was founded on 11th June 1993 as a result of a joint collaboration between the State Government of Terengganu and Ingenieurschule St. Gallen, Switzerland. The mission of the establishment was to create highly skilled technocrats in latest engineering fields and to produce best quality manpower in the market place. The most significant milestone in TATI’s history arrived when TATI was officially upgraded to University College status, bearing the name of TATI University College. On 17th September 2019, the use of the new branding has been approved by the Department of Higher Education (Malaysia) and TATIUC was officially known as University College TATI (UC TATI).

Since its inception in 1993, UC TATI has been on the steady path to become a world-class highly-skilled university in developing all-rounded and industrially competent students in the relevant fields. At the moment, there are 25 academic programmes ranging of foundation, diploma, bachelor and master’s degrees, for local and international students. These programmes covers the fields of Manufacturing, CNC Machining, Electronic and Automation, Mechatronics, Robotics and Instrumentation, Chemical Engineering and Polymer, Computer Science, Computer Network & Security (CISCO), Graphic Design, Entrepreneurship and Accounting.

UC TATI aims to develop academic programmes that focus on utilizing teaching and learning concepts and laboratory practical that students can understand the theory and apply the methods in relevant fields. UC TATI is committed to ensure all the teaching pedagogues meet the overall interest of the students, industries and the nation. The extensive learning facilities indicates UC TATI’s pursuit towards producing highly-skilled and competent graduates in the market. The combination between these two elements will ensure students are equipped with the relevant skills and are ready to engage in a challenging work environment in the future. UC TATI also support research activities as a priority for all academic staff and master’s degree students through short term grants awards, financial assistance and organising joint international and local conferences in order to transform them into professional and experts with strong research and innovation background.

UC TATI provides only the best facilities and services to local and international students throughout their stay at the campus. By providing well-equipped accommodation on campus, the assistance and consultation for educational loan & scholarships, managing on and off-campus activities as well as offering counselling services, students are able to enjoy conducive living and learning experience in UC TATI. The Student Representative Council is established to look after the welfare of all students in UC TATI and organises various types of activities in promoting social awareness and interaction among students. The Council also provided a platform for students to communication with the management on issues pertaining to living and study conditions.

To support and assist international students on campus, UC TATI has also established International Student Unit to facilitate international students and international educational exchange through its services and programmes. The unit provides welfare and services to the international student for the whole semester of their studies in UC TATI as serves incoming and current international students at the campus. The ultimate goal is to ensure all international students will have a successful and enjoyable personal experience with UC TATI.

As a prominent higher educational institution in producing competent manpower that are highly sought after by the employers, UC TATI strives to nurture students with leadership skills. In the efforts to producing excellent, active and well-rounded graduates, UC TATI is dedicated to providing safe opportunities for participation in a wide array of competitive, recreational and instructional sport activities. Clubs and societies offer leadership opportunities and team-building experiences, as each club is solely organised, managed, and led by students. Throughout their period of study in UC TATI, students will be exposed to various trainings, workshops and activities that help them become confident and empowering as well as explore their career pathway through career guidance support.

UC TATI emphasises strengthening industry and research collaboration as well as focusing on the industrial attachments that helps fresh graduates to meet the evolving requirements of industry. In addition, the market orientation of academic programmes in UC TATI is enhanced to ease student transition into the labour market and to improve overall student employability. By implementing more industrial training for students, they will be able to apply acquired knowledge in problem based exercises in real-life industrial projects and experience working alongside industry experts. Students also will have the opportunities to practise interpersonal skills and abilities for team work through interaction with professionals in their field of study.

UC TATI was one of the earliest private higher education institutions officially granted with LAN Accreditation (Lembaga Akreditasi Negara), currently known as Malaysia Qualification Agency (MQA). It is a requirement for educational institutions providing post-secondary or higher educational programmes. UC TATI was also honoured with MS ISO 9001:2000 in 2014, MS ISO 9001:2008 in 2010 and MS ISO 9001:2015 in 2019. This shows that UC TATI strives on only the best quality management systems in educational industry. In 2017, UC TATI was one of the earliest university colleges that achieved 4 stars rating in SETARA ranking which includes Teaching & Learning, General, Research and Services categories. UC TATI was also recognised by the Indonesia Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education (Ristekdikti) for its academic programme equivalent to the applicable education level in Indonesia.

Professor Dr. Anuar bin Ahmad Rector , University College TATI (UC TATI) Prof. Dr Anuar bin Ahmad, the 7th Rector of University College TATI (UC TATI) has the vision to set the right direction for tertiary education with values embedded knowledge and skills. He has made it as his commitment to see higher education in Terengganu to be at par with the standard and quality expected elsewhere in higher education institution in Malaysia. One of his main priorities is to enhance the visibility of the university at both regional and internationally. To assure the quality of academic programmes, he ensures UC TATI adhere to the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) and Department of Higher Education (JPT) and develops marketable and on-demand programmes. As a prominent educator, he understands the need for hands-on learning in education. Thus, he has set up UC TATI Car Service Centre (TSC) as a platform for students to use their knowledge in Automotive Engineering Technology. Prof. Dr Anuar also sets his sight towards developing UC TATI as one of the most energy-efficient universities in Malaysia through the installation of solar panels on the campus buildings rooftops. This solar panel installation has created opportunities for students to explore potential renewable energy technology research. Faced by challenging economic times and changing geopolitical circumstances, Prof. Dr Anuar understands that all higher education institutions need to be innovative to generate income via subsidiary companies and affiliated centres. Thus, he has taken major steps to diversify income streams to become financially sustainable and be able to continue to deliver quality education. One of his contributions is the production of AboutSkin products, UC TATI's skincare line consisted of hand sanitizer and hand care travel kits, using the expertise of UC TATI's lecturers.
