Introduction
The Malaysian Association of Private Colleges and Universities (MAPCU) was established on 18 March, 1997. It stands as Malaysia’s most prestigious grouping of private colleges and universities with membership from major and well-established institutions. All members offer post secondary and / or tertiary level courses independently and / or in collaboration with established local and foreign institutions of higher learning.

MAPCU’s credentials as an association representing the private higher education sector are reflected by invitations to participate or sit on Boards and Committees by the following ministries and institutions:

MAPCU's Objectives
Operating in ‘smart partnership’ with the government and its agencies, MAPCU serves to harness the full potential of Malaysia’s private higher education industry to achieve its objectives which includes:
- Promoting and coordinating the growth and development of Malaysia’s private higher education industry while contributing towards the social and economic development of the country
- Identifying and studying industry problems and implementing solutions in cooperation with relevant government bodies and agencies
- Encouraging and promoting the practice of professionalism, integrity and quality amongst its members:
- Protecting and representing the legitimate interests of members in legislation, policies and procedures
- Enhancing the quality and delivery of courses and programmes by members
- Affiliations with international associations and bodies
- Representation on national level committees, councils and boards set up by the government and other relevant non-government agencies in an advisory, strategic and consultative capacity
- Playing a major role in helping the government to establish Malaysia as a regional center of education excellence
