The One Academy Students’ Fun & Learning Interior Design Week

For the interior design students at The One Academy, it is more than just learning how to create a creative space and innovative interior designs. It is also about making sure that students are creatively inspired all the time to go beyond creative boundaries. The One Academy assures that students are empowered by encouraging the academy’s interior design faculty, led by Dr. Eric Leong, to organize events known as ID Week featuring industry speakers, activities, games and more.

This event is a way for students to maintain their aesthetic values to stay creative and motivated as individuals. Using this approach, in a bigger picture, students will not only be confident in their work, but in their well-being too, thus producing excellent results.

The recent ID week that was held at The One Academy Interior Design department, saw 3 days of excitement, various happenings and other on-goings arranged for the students. There was a series of sharing sessions, The One Academy interior design students’ exhibition, activities, music performance and much more. The One Academy students were taking this chance to socialize and get to know their peers while exchanging notes on creative interests. The event was filled with lots of fun, and the colourful decorations and fashionable attires showed everyone’s enthusiasm!

The One Academy Interior Design Week was celebrated like a festive season, except that instead of tinsels and lanterns, it was a celebration of students’ creative expression. The ID Week atmosphere was made livelier thanks to Dr. Eric Leong, Faculty Head of the ultimate Interior Design School and Interior Architecture Design School, and his faculty team.

Known as the vibrant and aesthetic interior design expert and educator, Dr. Eric Leong ensured that the event was not only for out-of-classroom learning experience, but it was also for students to remember that creative learning was fun once again. The event help reignite the passion for creativity once more and to learn how to further develop themselves in their interior design knowledge.

In one of Dr. Leong’s speeches, he highlighted that the achievements obtained by students and graduates are fruits of their labor. According to Dr. Leong, he has always believed in the talents of The One Academy students as well as their creative thinking and problem-solving capabilities. “I always encourage The One Academy students to participate in local and international competitions as often as possible. Not to win but to learn from the process of preparing for competitions. It is not about winning, the idea here is to showcase your work to build your portfolio as the future generation of interior designers!” said Dr. Leong.

It wasn’t just about fun and games, the 3-day ID week also consist of presentations by professionals from the industry, such as Vishal Singh a design consultant known for his design-focused styles that are incorporated into redesigning houses projects in upscale locations like Bangsar. The event also featured Managing Director, Huat Lim of ZLG Designs- Huat Lim is famous for designing the Cameron Highland’s Boh Tea Plantation Visitor Centre; and finally, a product knowledge sharing by George Wee of Propan, a paint solution company- besides sharing about the products and its qualities, Wee also shared with the students tips and tricks on how to care for wood furnishings and understanding the various types of wood materials.

The One Academy interior design students definitely learned more than what they have asked for. It was not only an insightful learning experience but it was also about finding their way back into getting in touch with their inner creativity through unconventional learning method. In the education industry, The One Academy has a distinguished reputation for being committed to enhance students’ work quality by creating opportunities, whether it is from learning or hands-on, as long as it allows them to discover their truest creative potential.
