Soaring High in London with fascinating Multimedia film

December 27, 2013 | Campus News

The graduating batch of MM1008, The One Academy created a multimedia short film for the opening ceremony of their graduate exhibition ‘Soar High 1008’, it was so fascinating that it won them an ‘Honourable Mention’ in the London International Creative Competition 2013.

With an infinite supply of creativity, The One Academy students regularly prove their unrivalled aptitude by scoring victories in competitions around the world. This abstract short film stands out as a breakthrough as it combines live performance and projected visual, something never done previously in The One Academy.

The concept revolved around the iconic red chair belonged to the graduating batch. As it was stolen, the main actor played by Tan Shi Bin kicked start an epic search and fought to get it back. As for the art direction, the classmates decided to tell the story by using simple shapes and only 3 colours, namely red, black and white.

The Art Director, Zac Yang inspired the teammates with a performance by Beyonce on Youtube, when she performed for the Billboard Awards 2011. While she was singing, the background was projected with an eye-catching visual that interacted with her movements and gestures. It's indeed a exhilarating experience to many by telling the story in a Multimedia way, without involving complicated technology and its hefty pricetag.

To produce the ideal movie, the teammates encountered numerous difficulties, including the coordination between the projected visual on the background and the live performance, thus multiple testings were needed. It goes without saying that the team spent much time on rehearsals repeatly. This clearly certify the success of The One Academy’s industry-driven syllabus and practical coaching approach, with which students who think out-of-the-box and dare to challenge the norm will one day emerge to worldwide prominence.

Being the only winning Malaysian production, the creators of ‘Soar High 1008 Opening Night Show’ were greatly thrilled by the winning, since their project would be featured alongside other excellent projects from the United Kingdom, France, Italy, Japan and Switzerland. As pronounced by Sean Liew, the batch leader, the comprehensive education in The One Academy had deepened the students’ creativity while enhanced their artistry.

For the team, the key to success lies in passion and determination, which form a powerful driving force for those who are willing to ‘Aim for the moon, shoot for the stars’. To achieve fantastic results, designers should have a higher self-confidence in themselves as well as their work. Nurtured under The One Academy’s ‘Masters Train Masters’ philosophy, these young designers will certainly outdo their peers and soar to the forefront of the international creative industry!
