Sunway A-Level students are Top in the World

At the recent Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) Outstanding Cambridge Learner Awards (OCLA) ceremony, nine Sunway A-Level students were awarded certificates for their excellent performance in the June 2013 Cambridge examination series.

Students from Sunway College who received the Top in the World Award for CIE AS level were; Daphne Ngan Hwee Ern for Accounting, Ang Eer Yin, Ho Shi Ying, Kuan Wei Jee, Loh Khang Yee and Tan Tee Toon for Mathematics while Leong Wei Cheng and Dawn Soon Lyn Hui from Sunway College Johor Bahru each received the Top in Malaysia Award for General Paper.

In the CIE A level, Pan Eu Fern received the Top in Malaysia Award for Psychology. All the award winners received their certificates from YB Datuk Mary Yap Kain Ching, Deputy Minister of Education 1 and Ben Schmidt, Regional Director (Asia Pacific) Cambridge International Examinations. Also present at the ceremony was Ng Kim Huat, Senior Schools Development Manager, Malaysia for Cambridge International Examinations.

Overall, over 40% scored straight As in the A and AS levels. For many years running, Sunway A-Level students have done exceptionally well in the Cambridge GCE A-Level examinations.

Liew Ziqing, one of the 12 students who scored 4A*s in the November 2012 exams, is currently pursuing his degree in Engineering at the University of Cambridge. Ziqing, a recipient of the Top in Malaysia Award for the CIE AS Level in Mathematics then, represented Malaysia at the International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO) in Russia and won the bronze medal. His trip to Russia was sponsored by the Jeffrey Cheah Foundation.

The Cambridge GCE A-Level Programme is one of the pre-university programmes offered at Sunway College since 1994. Sunway College is only one of three centres nationwide to be accorded the elite status of a Fellowship Centre. This status is accorded to a centre that provides a superior delivery system that produces excellent results in the biannual examinations.
