MMU Students Get Massive Head Start at Specialized Career Fair

Cyberjaya, 7 January 2014 – Multimedia University (MMU) today launched its Career Fair ‘14 at the Dewan Tun Canselor at its campus here today.

This year’s installment of the annual event saw the participation of more than 60 companies, representing numerous sectors, including Engineering, Banking and Finance, IT and Food and nutrition. 

A two-day event, the Career Fair was meant to bring together students and the industry for the benefit of both, particularly for companies looking to secure quality human capital. Fully organized by the students of MMU, this event is also an opportunity for undergraduates to acquire internship placements.

The event was launched by Dato’ Sri Abdul Wahid bin Omar, Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office. In his officiating speech, Wahid advised university students to never be satisfied with mediocre results, but instead should have a passion to be the best in whatever they do. 

Themed “Build your future”, this event is open to all undergraduates around Malaysia as well as to the public, of course the main benefactor is still MMU students who are in their final year and students looking for internship oppurtunities.

Following the launch of the Career Fair, Wahid spent almost an hour with MMU students. During the session, he shared with them his experience of climbing the corporate ladder through various companies and organizations. The students were free to pose all sorts of questions to him, which he replied good-naturedly.

For the telecommunications sector, the participants of the Career Fair were Celcom Axiata, Green Packet Berhad, Huawei Technologies, IX Telecom, Maxis, Samsung, Telekom Malaysia Berhad, and Time Dotcom Berhad. Oil and gas was represented by ExxonMobil, Halliburton, MMC Oil & Gas Engineering Sdn Bhd, Muhibbah Engineering (M) Bhd, Schlumberger, Shell Malaysia, Technip, and UMW Oil & Gas. 

The IT sector brought in Cisco Systems, Dell Global Business Centre, Hewlett-Packard, IA Group, IBM Malaysia, KRU Studios, M-Mode Berhad, Sharepoint Factory Sdn Bhd, and VADS Berhad. Electrical and electronics were represented by Agilent Technologies, Altera, Clarion, Dyson, Intel, Motorola Solutions, National Instruments, Osram Opto Semiconductors, and Silterra. For biotechnology, the Infovalley Group of Companies was the sole representative.
