The One Academy promotes outstanding creative excellence by offering RM720,000 in scholarships & prizes to youth & complimenting successful graduates in Malaysia Top 10 Awards!

To strengthen the nation's competitiveness in this age of creative economy, The One Academy has bestowed youngsters the opportunities to be nurtured in cutting-edge art programmes, and conferred distinguished awards to outstanding graduates!

Preserving the drive to nurture future creative experts and to compliment successful graduates, The One Academy once again sketched a bright future for deserving young talents by offering scholarships and fantastic prizes worth RM720,000, as well as highlighted the achievement of successful graduates through prestigious awards.

Through Malaysia Top 10 Outstanding Young Artists Award 2014, potential talents were identified and selected to enroll in the various creative art and design courses provided by The One Academy, to master the essential artistry needed to attain worldclass achievements!

To further inspire these young talents keen on embarking on a creative career, The One Academy also lined up 12 excellent graduates who have flourished in the global creative arena, with the presentation of Malaysia Top 10 Outstanding Creative Youth Award! It serves as a testimonial that conducted in line with the Masters Train Masters teaching philosophy, our cutting-edge creative art and design courses could do marvels!

As a on-going effort to scout for and nurture talents, Top 10 Outstanding Young Artist Award has now entered its 17th year in Malaysia, and expanded to Indonesia and China. This on-going initiative aims to propel talented youths to emerge as the world class expert as aspired by mastering essential techniques, and shine brightly in the world of art and design.

The competition aimed to celebrate the upcoming release of Disney’s ‘Plane: Fire and Rescue’, with Walt Disney Studios Malaysia, Canon Malaysia, Gempak and Comic King as sponsors, and supported by Multimedia Development Corporation (MDEC).

This year, it saw the participation of over 6,000 teenagers from all over the country in the qualifying challenge. The theme of the preliminary round was ‘Air Plane Logo’, with more than 3,000 shortlisted participants invited to attend the final round, in the form of an on-the-spot drawing competiton, held at 9 locations around the country, namely Alor Star, Batu Pahat, Johore Bahru, Sibu, Kuching, Kota Kinabalu, Georgetown, Ipoh and Bandar Sunway. Contestants were allowed 3 hours to complete their artwork themed ‘Rescue mission’, for which both realistic and fantastic scenario were accepted.

Artworks were judged based on criteria such as originality, creativity, tidiness and the strength of storytelling, by leading academics from The One Academy and representives from partner organisations. The Award Presentation Ceremony featured Yang Berbahagia Datuk Jamil Salleh, Secretary General of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, who handed out the major awards.

Sixteen-year old Seow Yong Khin from Chempaka Assembly of God Homeschooling Centre, USJ1, Subang Jaya emerged as the Best of the Best Gold Award winner, winning scholarship worth RM60,000 for his Diploma-level programmes. Our British affiliate, the University of Hertfordshire also sponsored a £5,000 scholarship, to be redeemed upon his enrollment in University of Hertfordshire’s Bachelor’s Degree programmes later. It was presented by Associate Dean of University of Hertfordshire’s School of Creative Arts, David McGravie.

Yong Khin also romped home with an Apple iPhone 5S, exclusive Plane: Fire & Rescue movie premiums, a certificate and a trophy. The savvy young artist was shock that he was named the overall champion. His artwork featured disaster victims with teary eyes looking eagerly at the helicopter hovering above, waiting for the airlift. As an animation enthusiast, he yearned to master Digital Animation in The One Academy.

The Silver award went to Jayden Yoon Zheng Kai, a 17-years old young artist currently studying in Kinabalu International School, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. He took home scholarship worth RM50,000, Apple iPad Air, movie premiums, a trophy and Certificate of Excellence. Aspired to be a movie director, Jayden was apparently delighted over his victory. He elaborated that he was proud of the winning, and this had in turn increased his self-esteem.

The Bronze award was garnered Chow Kok Chin, a 17-years old student from Yuk Chai Independent High School, Ipoh. He won scholarship worth RM40,000, Apple iPad 2 and movie premiums. Artworks were judged based on criteria such as originality, creativity, tidiness as well as the strength of storytelling, by leading academics from The One Academy and representives from partner organisations.

Besides the top 3 winners, 7 other outstanding teenagers won the Young Artists Award that comes with RM25,000 worth of scholarship each. Many more also walked away with precious scholarships, such as scholarship worth RM5,000 for Encouragement Prize winners, as well as scholarship worth RM3,000 for Jury’s Special Selection Prize winners.

In line with the result-oriented approach celebrated by The One Academy, 12 eminent graduates with impressive world class achievements were conferred Malaysia Top 10 Outstanding Creative Youth Award, and earned the title Platinum Achievers. The prestigious awards went to Kelly Woh, Kobe Sek Yong Kai, Dick Chua, Alex Phung Chun Chen, P’ng Yi Wei, Vince Low, Ng Teck Yew, Lim Seng Kai, Seah Ze Lin, Wong Shu Kor, Cheah Yong Keat and Lee Yon Hui, who were conferred these accomplishments by Datuk Jamil Salleh! Yon Hui, who is now working in the Story Department of Pixar Animation Studios in USA, and was represented by his father in receiving the award. His father stressed that the industry-driven education upheld by The One Academy has transformed his son into a multi-talented artist!

By organising Malaysia Top 10 Outstanding Young Artists Award and Malaysia Top 10 Creative Youth Award – Platinum Achievers Award, The One Academy has established a holistic platform to seek, nurture and champion creativity based on the Masters Train Masters teaching philosophy. The long list of excellent graduates leading successful careers all over the world testifies to our vigorous effort to fulfill this commitment. 

Besides the highly anticipated competition and awards event, there were also other marvellous creative happenings taking place on the exciting day, to acquaint potential students and parents about the courses here.

There was the Live Digital Painting and Live Sketching Demonstrations conducted by our lecturers, as well as the Augmented Reality Multimedia Workshop which awed the members of the public. Concurrently, there was the screening of short animated films created by Digital Animation students, under the guidance of brilliant Pixar masters!

Several awesome concept art paintings (paintings to portray ideas for the production of movies or computer games) exhibitions have captivated the public, propelling students to venture into the exciting world of art and design. Heads of departments and lecturers also took the stage and explained about the creative courses in The One Academy to the audience, where students learnt about what it takes to be part of the creative profession!
