KUALA LUMPUR: THE National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) will stick with its plan to reduce financing for students in public and private universities despite appeals from several quarters.

The move, which took effect on Saturday, sees a five per cent reduction in loans for students in public institutions of higher learning, and a 15 per cent reduction for students in private institutions.

PTPTN marketing and strategic communications chief officer Mastura Mohd Khalid said the move would affect students in the November and December intakes.

“A circular dated Oct 29 was issued to public and private institutions of higher learning. It was implemented on borrowers starting Nov 1,” she told the New Straits Times yesterday.

However, the reduction would not affect students pursuing a bachelor’s degree in medicine because of their higher fees.

The circular, PTPTN Bilangan 1 Tahun 2014, is available on the PTPTN website.
