Doctorate for Brunei ruler

GEORGE TOWN: The Sultan of Brunei Darussalam, Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, will be conferred an honorary Doctor of Law degree by Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) at its 50th convocation here today.

USM vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Omar Osman said the university’s chancellor, Raja of Perlis Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Syed Putra Jamalullail, would bestow the honorary degree on Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah during the first session of the convocation.

Sultan Hassanal Bokiah is in Malaysia for a three-day working visit, including attending the 18th Annual Leaders’ Consultation between Malaysia and Brunei at Seri Perdana in Putrajaya.

Omar said another honorary doctorate , in education, would be given to former Education Ministry director-general Tan Sri Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Arshad.
