8 December 2014, KUALA LUMPUR - Tunku Abdul Rahman University College (‘TAR University College’) via its Faculty of Accountancy, Finance and Business, is collaborating with Coventry University, one of the leading universities in the UK, to offer the Dual Award undergraduate programmes. A launching ceremony was held today at TAR University College Kuala Lumpur Main Campus to officiate the Dual Award collaboration with an attendance of 160 invited guests, staff and students. Among the luminaries in the ceremony included Mr Paul Rennie, Deputy British High Commissioner to Malaysia, Datuk Dr Tan Chik Heok, President of TAR University College, Dr David Pilsbury, Deputy Vice Chancellor for International Development at Coventry University and Mr Gavin Anderson, Country Director of British Council Malaysia.

The Dual Award arrangement is the key outcome from the synergistic partnership between the two respected institutions from the east and west.  This innovative arrangement paves the way for students to study wholly in TAR University College and obtain two tertiary qualifications, a Bachelor’s degree from TAR University College and Coventry University respectively, upon successful completion of the programmes covered in the Dual Award arrangement.

The programmes offered at TAR University College that will be conferred Dual Award are the Bachelor of Finance and Investment (Hons), Bachelor of Banking and Finance (Hons), Bachelor of Economics (Hons), Bachelor of Business Administration (Hons), Bachelor of Business (Hons) in Logistics and Supply Chain Management, Bachelor of Business (Hons) in International Business, Bachelor of Business (Hons) in Human Resource Management and Bachelor of Business (Hons) in Entrepreneurship.

In addition to the Dual Award, students also have the option to study one semester at Coventry University in the UK to provide students the international exposure and UK learning experience. This will broaden the students’ perspectives to be global-minded and at the same time, increase their employability and competitive advantage in the working world.

The Deputy British High Commisioner to Malaysia, Mr Paul Rennie, in his speech, said: “Transnational education is now a global phenomenon which has grown exponentially in the past ten years and the UK is a world leader in this. In 2009, 190,000 students completed a British qualification overseas, currently the figure is over 408,000 and the British Council predicts it will rise to 800,000 by 2020.”

Datuk Dr Tan Chik Heok, President of TAR University College, in his welcome speech emphasised the need for transnational partnership in today’s globalised economy as part of TAR University College’s internationalisation initiative.  He said: “As the world becomes borderless, the demand for greater workforce mobility calls for education with international dimension and global outlook. The Dual Award collaboration between TAR University College and Coventry University is the answer to this paradigm shift towards globalisation and internationalisation of education to develop high calibre graduates who thrive in the diversity of cultures and driven by global mindset.”

“The Dual Award collaboration reflects the partnership driven by the synergy between the two institutions. We certainly take pride in collaborating with Coventry University which is an established and award-winning university in the UK”, he continued.
