KUALA LUMPUR: Although there are more medical graduates than ever in the country, three top SPM scorers who each received a National Scholarship are adamant about studying medicine.

Muhammad Farhan Romli, 18, from SM Sains Sultan Mohamad Jiwa, Sungai Petani, was ecstatic about getting the scholarship and said he would pursue a career in medicine.

“My four elder brothers studied medicine and it was quite costly. This (scholarship) will ease my family’s financial burden,” he said, adding that he obtained 9A+ in his Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination.

Another scholarship recipient, Liew Mei Yen, 18, from SMK Convent Butterworth, Penang, scored 10 A+ in her SPM examination.

“I want to study medicine because my elder sister is studying that, too,” she said.

The remaining recipient, Repe Preet Kaur from SMK Convent Teluk Intan, has her heart set on pursuing medicine in Britain.
