Overview

The Malaysian Government has always placed great emphasis in developing human capital and building an educated nation. It is the Government’s aspiration to increase the component of wages to GDP from 34% currently to 40% by year 2020. Resources have been allocated to strengthen and empower education institutions and teachers; as well as working towards enhancing graduate employability. Yet, recent reports showed that Malaysian students did poorly in their performance in the International Assessment Student Assessment (PISA) and Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS). No Malaysian universities ever made it to the Top 100 at the QS World University Rankings amidst billions of ringgit being spent annually on Education.

What actually went wrong in the transformation of education system? There is a critical need to relook at all aspects of our education system to enhance our national competitiveness in the long run. Many in the market commented that Malaysian graduates lack critical, analytical and communication ability on top of the mismatch of skills that the market demands.

The new Higher Education Blueprint 2015-2025 aims at transforming and uplifting the standards of higher education in Malaysia. Will this Blueprint be able to address all the challenges that we are facing in our Higher Education System?

This annual Malaysian Education Summit aims at bringing together key stakeholders in the Malaysian Education ecosystem to brainstorm how best to further enhance the quality of education. The Summit will also discuss key trends and identify new opportunities in the education sector. It is a forum for exchange of views and sharing of best practices in developing world-class education in Malaysia.
