PETALING JAYA, 28th AUGUST 2015 – One can expect no less than one of the most versatile university degree qualifications available when they choose to read law. The Law School at KDU College is committed in providing their students with a good, honest, holistic and well-rounded education in Law.

Students who enrol at the KDU Law School have been key proponents in academia, as well as student welfare activities and extra-curricular activities.

Quite recently, three KDU law students, Chuo Chung Cheng, Santhana Barathi and Michelle Ling Shyan Mih, accompanied by the University of London (UOL) International Programmes LL.B programme leader, Ms. Donna Elizabeth Tan, attended the Asian Law Students’ Association (ALSA) International Legal Training and Workshop, which was held in Manila, Philippines.

The week-long workshop, which centred in three major fields in Asia: Intellectual Property Law, International Business Law and Alternative Dispute Resolution, comprised of law students from seven Asian countries, such as Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Philippines, Brunei, Sri Lanka, and Malaysia gathering together, with the opportunity to gain practical knowledge.

The workshop proved to be beneficial for the three KDU students, as not only were the speakers very experienced, but also because contents discussed during the workshop were complimentary to the students’ academics as taught in the classrooms of KDU. In addition to that, the workshop provided a golden opportunity for the students to network with other ALSA members representing the other six Asian countries. Not only was it filled with academic discussions and touched on topics that are relevant to major fields of law in Asia, the students were also given a night to let loose and forge bonds amongst themselves on the ‘Graduation Night’.

In between the long hours at the workshop, the KDU students also had the opportunity to experience Manila. Among the activities were a visit to the National Art Gallery, which is housed in the old Legislative Building. The magnificent building was adorned with many intricate works of art; with awe-inspiring paintings, artefacts, sculptures and other displayed treasures. The students agreed collectively that the highlight of the trip to the Gallery would be witnessing in person the pride and joy of the National Art Gallery, Juan Luna’s larger-than-life ‘Spoliarium’, which was hanging in the ‘Masters’ gallery beside the lobby.

KDU prides itself as provider of holistic and quality education. By funding these workshops, KDU enables its students to gain not only an overseas experience but also invaluable knowledge that adds to their academics. A firm believer in development and education beyond the classroom, KDU’s students are equipped with skills and knowledge that are of a different edge through exposure to different types of education and teaching, which in turn propels them to hit the ground running.

KDU’s partnership with the University of London International Programmes provides students with the opportunity to obtain a law degree from one of the oldest law school in the UK. The UOL law degree is internationally recognised and respected by both law practitioners and academics. Indeed, some would say it is the ‘gold standard’ of undergraduate law degrees. It is the only external law degree programme recognised by the Legal Profession Qualifying Board of Malaysia.

The UOL law degree gives graduates opportunities to be employed globally. Its wide range of electives cater for market needs and are consistent with students’ study interests and future ambitions. Students pursuing the UOL programme in KDU have also been scoring excellently and consistently in examinations, with KDU’s results surpassing world average in 80% of the programme subjects.
