Liew Suet Yi, Ong Pei Yin and Ter Mei Ching did ESMOD Kuala Lumpur proud by making it as Top 10 Finalists for AirAsia Runway Ready Designer Search 2015, beating 350 other entries nationwide!

Their works, along with other finalists were paraded at the runway during the Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week 2015 Ready To Wear (KLFW RTW) at Centre Court, Pavilion, judged by a distinguished panel of experts including AirAsia Berhad Chief Executive Officer Aireen Omar, KLFW RTW Founder Andrew Tan, renowned fashion designers Khoon Hooi and Jovian Mandagie; and EH! Magazine Editor Khairul Abidin Ishak.

The theme of the Grand Finale was Southeast Asian destinations and inspirations ranged from deep sea creatures and architecture to topical issues like haze and deforestation. Out of all 10 finalists, Ter Mei Ching clinched Second Runner Up as she impressed the judges with her design which was inspired by the Penang Bridge, reflected in structured dresses and shades of grey. She won a pair of return flights to Hong Kong and 33,000 AirAsia BIG Points!

The designer search reflected AirAsia’s commitment to help young aspiring talents to fulfill their dreams, to support them and to provide them the highest form of exposure and opportunities available in the fashion industry.

According to Andrew Tan from KL Fashion Week, the competition wasn't just about discovering new talent and the glitz and glamour of the runway show but it’s about ensuring these designers have a career that they will follow through with them.

With this in mind, the winners of this year’s KL Fashion Week including Ter Mei Ching, will be returning for the next KL Fashion Week, but this time to showcase their entire collection. Andrew also hopes to create a capsule collection twice a year to be made available on the AirAsia site.

With bright futures ahead of them, these finalists are no doubt the up-and-coming faces of fashion to look out for in Malaysia one day.

“We are very proud of our students not just for making it Top 10 and have the opportunity to parade their creation on the prestigious Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week but mostly because they actively sought for opportunities to discover and explore themselves by getting exposed to the industry’s challenges out there. They are indeed role models to all our students and in order to nurture skills to reach the par of international standards of excellence, this is a very important attitude to carry for the rest of our lives. Therefore, we congratulate our students for such outstanding display of success,” said Tatsun Hoi, principal and founder of ESMOD Kuala Lumpur and The One Academy, one of Malaysia’s top arts and design education institution.
