200,000 foreign students target

KUALA LUMPUR: THE Education Ministry is aiming to attract 200,000 international students to study in local institutions of higher learning by the year 2020.

Deputy Education Minister P. Kamalanathan said to attract foreign students, the ministry would participate in education fairs overseas.

“There are nearly 100,000 international students pursuing their higher education in the country.

“We have achieved 50 per cent of our target and the number is increasing. In order to hit the target, the ministry will actively participate in international education fairs to attract international students,” he said after opening the Facon Education Fair 2014 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) here yesterday.

Malaysia is currently ranked the world’s 11th most preferred study destination which accounts for two per cent of the international student population around the world.
