90 bowlers compete in 4th Curtin Open Bowling Competition

Miri – 2 November 2015 – Over 90 bowlers from Miri, Sibu and Brunei took part in the recent 4th Curtin Open Bowling Competition 2015 organised by Curtin Bowling Club of Curtin University, Sarawak, Malaysia (Curtin Sarawak). 

A total of 24 teams of four members each took part in the competition at Mega Lanes East Bintang Megamall, making it the largest ever organised by the club.

The top three teams were awarded cash prizes, trophies, and hampers. In first place was team Borneo 300 consisting of Brandon Ting, Jerry Joe, Nasrul Abdullah and Amirul Hisyam. In second place was Azores comprising Patrick Ng, Ivan Tan, Fatimah Yusop and Kuan We Wei while SBB II comprising Mahmud bin Serman, Kasita bin Hamdan, Mohd. Razi bin Arikin and Muhd. Zulhazmi came in third. 

Team ranked fourth was awarded medals and K Tune karaoke voucher while team ranked fifth awarded medals and K Tune vouchers. The sixth and seventh team were awarded medals and complimentary bowling game voucher while eighth to tenth team were awarded medals.

The Best Individual Male Player award went to Kasita bin Hamdan from SBB II. Nasrul Abdullah and Amirul Hisyam, both from Borneo 300, were declared the first and second runner-ups respectively. 

Meanwhile, Fatimah Ayup from Petronas 1 clinched the Best Individual Female Player title, followed by Jestini from Darngo and Fatimah Yusop from Azores in second and third place respectively. 

The top winners in the individual categories each received a trophy and complimentary hotel and bowling vouchers while the first and second runner-ups were awarded trophies, hampers and complimentary bowling vouchers.

This event was sponsored by Assistant Minister of Communication and Sports Datuk Lee Kim Shin, who officiated at the event; Yang Berhormat Alan Ling Sie Kiong, ParkCity Everly Hotel Miri, MYSK Petrol Station Petronas Senadin, K Tunes, Megalanes East Miri, and the Sports and Recreation Services Department and student council of Curtin Sarawak.

According to Datuk Lee, the competition was a good recreational activity that encouraged team spirit and challenged the players’ skills. He also said it was an effective way for students of Curtin Sarawak to reach out to the community and at the same time, promote the university.

Meanwhile, Curtin Bowling Club advisor Jameson Malang thanked all the sponsors and participants for their support, and club president and organising chairperson Yap Zhe Yang thanked Datuk Lee and the organising committee members for helping making the competition a success.
