Big turnout for ‘Curtin Discovery Day’

Miri – 17 February 2016 – The recent ‘Curtin Discovery Day’ at Curtin University, Sarawak Malaysia (Curtin Sarawak) attracted over 200 prospective students and their parents eager to find out more about studying at the university and enrolment in its current February/March intake. 

The students, who included SPM, STPM, UEC, O-Level and A-Level school leavers, were counselled on the courses offered at the university, career pathways, scholarships and study loans and enrolment, in addition to attending sharing sessions and talks. They also viewed a showcase of course projects by current students and went on a tour of its teaching and learning facilities.

In the sharing sessions by Acting Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Science, Associate Professor Ir. Lau Hieng Ho, and Dean of the Faculty of Business and Humanities, Professor Jonathan Winterton, the students got to learn more about the setup of the two faculties, their teaching and research strengths, as well as their facilities and courses.

The main highlight of the event was a talk on ‘Finding Life’s Direction’ by Certified Life Coach Jasly Kong. Kong helped the students construct personal roadmaps to career success using the DISC Personality Profiling System, a self-discovery tool, in addition to interactive and experiential activities to discover their personal goals.

Curtin Sarawak’s February/March intake is still in progress with classes for undergraduate courses starting on 29 February and foundation courses on 28 March.
