Sunway students shine

From scoring As to topping Olympiads, the A level students of Sunway College continue to shine and make their college proud.

In the June 2015 Cambridge International Examinations (CIE), 50% of Sunway College’s students achieved 3As and above while 65% of students scored 3As and above for the November 2015 exam.

Their commendable performance was rewarded by 35 and 24 awards in the ‘CIE Outstanding Cambridge Learners Award 2015’ for June and November respectively, a total of 59 awards – more than any other A level provider.

The A level students of Sunway also shone in other achievements. Two teams took home the first and second prizes in the Bio-inspired Mechanical Robot Competition organised by the Engineering Department of Monash University Malaysia.

In the Malaysian Biology Olympiad 2016 held at Pusat PERMATApintar Negara, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, Sunway students Phang Ren Jie and Lee Qia Jen won the gold and bronze medals respectively. As the top scorer, Phang will represent Malaysia in the 27th International Biology Olympiad in Vietnam in July 2016.

Representing Malaysia in the 57th International Mathematical Olympiad in Hong Kong in July 2016 is Tan Kin Aun. In March, Tan also represented the country in the Asian Pacific Mathematics Olympiad in Chiangmai where he clinched the silver medal.

In another math competition, Ang Yi Fang was the top scorer in the Euclid Mathematics Contest organised by the Centre for Education in Mathematics and Computing, University of Waterloo. Ang was also the gold medal winner in the Kangaroo Mathematics Competition.

“With remarkable and consistent achievements such as these, it is no wonder that the A levels of Sunway College has earned itself the distinction of being one of only three centres nationwide to be accorded the elite status of a Cambridge International Fellowship Centre,” said Dr Elizabeth Lee, Senior Executive Director of Sunway Education Group and Sunway University at the AAA Night 2016 organised by Sunway College on 11 June 2016.

Lee congratulated and thanked the students for their impressive achievements. She also congratulated students who have received offers and secured places at some of the top universities in the world; seven of whom who have received offers from Cambridge and two from Oxford.
