Curtin Sarawak offering Intensive English Programme this coming January

Miri – 22 December 2016 – Curtin University, Sarawak Malaysia (Curtin Sarawak) is offering a 10-week Intensive English Programme (IEP) commencing 9 January 2017 for those who are interested in giving themselves a language head start next year.

The 20-hour a week programme runs Monday through Friday and covers skills in listening, reading, writing, speaking and grammar. The programme aims to enable students to meet the requirements for entering university as well as improving employment opportunities or simply to increase international travelling experience.

The declining standards of English nationwide have been a cause of concern all around. As a result, students perform poorly and employees communicate badly. Many employers are desperately searching for staff that are competent in the English language.

The highlight of the IEP is an interactive class where students have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the dynamic intricacies of the English language.

According to Curtin Sarawak’s IEP lecturer David Patenaude, students will have the opportunities to practice these skills in the teaching and learning activities, both in and outside the classrooms.

“The IEP offers both an IELTS preparation programme for those students who wish to pursue further academic plans as well as a general English programme for those in the community who are more interested in simply improving their English communication skills” David said.

Former student Mauricio Barreno from Ecuador commented that the IEP course is a fantastic experience because one has the opportunity to meet people and make friends from different nationalities and cultural backgrounds, while his course mate Mok Bin Tat said that the programme not only enables him to improve on his English proficiency but also establish meaningful friendships with other students on campus.

Potential students who are interested in taking a free placement test are advised to contact +6085-443 321 or email to [email protected].
