MQA & AUSTRALIAN TEQSA SIGN MOC

PETALING JAYA, 27 Mac 2017 – The Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) continues to strengthen its good relationship with the Australia’s Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency (TEQSA) through the extension of the Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) between both agencies. The MoC was signed today by the Chief Executive Officers of both agencies, Datuk Prof. Dr. Rujhan Mustafa (MQA) and Mr. Anthony McClaran (TEQSA) in MQA’s office in Petaling Jaya.

The MoC aims at fostering the existing relationship between the two agencies, further strengthening the partnership and promoting technical cooperation that will be of mutual benefit through, amongst others, exchange of information and mutual understanding. This is also to enable the officials from the two agencies to support and learn from each other, effectively perform its regulatory and quality assurance responsibilities and enhance the understanding of each other’s approach in ensuring quality in higher education.

During the signing ceremony today, Rujhan informed that the cooperation is hope to provide developmental opportunities for officials of both agencies to participate in the staff exchange programme at each other’s offices, participate as observers in institutional audit exercises and be involved in training activities. All of these initiatives are aspires to strengthen the international dimension of institutional audits and collaborate in future quality assurance and accreditation activities. 

With the partnership, it is also hoped that it may facilitate and enhance the mobility of students and people between both countries, said Rujhan today. 

The above objectives and partnership initiatives are expected to contribute in positioning MQA as a global authority on quality assurance of higher education that has an internationally recognised system of quality assurance as outlined in its vision and mission. 

At the end of the signing ceremony, Rujhan also informed that the MoC between MQA and TEQSA was duly signed on 19 September 2013 between both agencies. Since the MoC expired on 18 September 2016, both agencies agreed to extend and continue the aforementioned for an additional term of three years, commencing on 27 March 2017 and expiring on 26 March 2020.
