The IMU Science Discovery 2017 (SDC2017)

July 11, 2017 | Campus News
IMU Science Discovery Challenge (SDC) is back for the 3rd year! This year more than 4,000 students nationwide have participated in the qualifying round in SDC2017 that began online. Come this Saturday, 228 secondary level students in 76 teams (3 in a team) from all over the country will be battling at the semi-final for their ticket to the grand finals in IMU Campus. And only 20 teams will qualify to the grand finals on the same day.

In addition to the finale, the SDC2017 also featured ten workshops for students to explore the various expects of science. Among the workshops conducted, just to name a few, included Clinical Sciences, which offered practical exposure to a real world clinic; Monsters Around Us that expounded creepy facts on parasites around us; Backpack Load in School Children that shared the danger and direct impact of children’s backpack’s load on their growth and spine health; Body Language and You that explored the subtlety of the silent language and what it says about someone’s body gestures.

About SDC

The IMU Science Discovery 2017 (SDC2017) is a nationwide inter-school Quiz Competition which is organised by International Medical University (IMU). The IMU SDC2017 was introduced back in 2015 to promote interest in the area of science particularly in upper secondary school, when students had a choice between the arts or science stream, as well as pre-university, when students were usually still seeking for the best course of study. With focuses such as this year’s “Science Up Your Future”, the SDC2017 has been bridging the gap for students to realise the potential and lasting impact that science offers.
