2,500 Runners take part in MMU e-Bee Run 2018

Organised by MMU to promote healthy lifestyle among community

Cyberjaya, 14 April 2018 – About 2,500 runners participated in the Multimedia University (MMU) e-Bee Run 2018 at MMU Campus Cyberjaya here, today.

The runners, comprises of MMU students, staff and public were flagged off by the President of MMU, Prof. Datuk Dr. Ahmad Rafi Mohamed Eshaq at the front of Chancellory Building at 7.00 a.m. The runners run for three categories which are 21 kilometer (KM) Marathon, 10 KM Competitive Run and 5 KM Fun Run at the surrounding area of Cyberjaya.

According to Prof. Datuk Dr. Ahmad Rafi Mohamed Eshaq, the first running event for MMU serves as one of the engagement activities for MMU alumni, students, staff, as well as public. “This event is not about winning the run, but it is about the togetherness. We want to make this event accessible and enjoyable for everyone,” he said. The president said, “We are running also for a good cause. Besides health benefits, this is an avenue to help students in need. A good portion of the participation fees is specially allocated to ease their burden through financial assistance.”

In the 10 KM Competitive Run category, Neo Chi Cyhn won the first place for Open Men; Ken Lam Wai Leong (first place, Men Senior); Dharsini Thanagathurai (first place, Women Open) and Reen Rawaida Zuhdi (first place, Women Senior). For the 21 KM Marathon category, Albert Wijaya secured first place for Men Open; Naresh Kumar (first place, Men Senior), Johana Mohamad Mohamed Nordin (first place, Women Open); Firdiana Fadzil (first place, Women Senior).

They received medals and prizes such as portable mobile printer, power bank, gameplay archery, guarantee swimming package and voucher from Prof. Datuk Dr. Ahmad Rafi Mohamed Eshaq. Also present at the ceremony, Nor Suhaimi Sulong, Acting Chief Human Capital Officer, Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) and Mohd. Amin Abdullah Sani, Senior Director of Human Capital Management of MMU.

Ong Kaw Yean, 28, who won the second place for Women Open category in 21 KM Marathon describes the success is a birthday gift as she turn 28 years old today. The MMU alumni said, she very happy with the double celebrations in a day. “I was never thought I could win the run because I run for fun.”

A unique runner, Teo Beng Seon, 32, who run with sandals and won second place for Men Open category in 21 KM Marathon, said, it was enjoyable activity where the university and surrounding community get connected. “The cost for my pasar malam sliper is only RM12, but its help me to win the run,” he said with joy.

Organised by Centre for Alumni MMU, the objective of the programme is to engage the alumni, students, staff of MMU together with the public in general in promoting healthy life style. The programme is also a platform to promote the MMU to the public as well as to strenghthen the networking of Cyberjaya community via the programme.
