Curtin Malaysia Carnival could very well change your life and inspire your futureJuly 9, 2018 | Campus News
Miri – 9 July 2018 – Curtin University, Malaysia (Curtin Malaysia) will be holding the Curtin Malaysia Carnival 2018 at its campus here from 10 am to 5pm on 25 August 2018.
Open to the public, the event will be especially beneficial to potential students of Curtin Malaysia, as it is geared to give them an in-depth look at life at Curtin University’s largest international campus and global hub in Asia (and the largest Australian international campus in the world). The campus states in its promotional material that the event could very well ‘change their lives and inspire their future’.
Previously known as the Curtin Malaysia Open Day, the event was rebranded into the Curtin Malaysia Carnival this year to differentiate it from the campus’ new twice-yearly Academic Open Days in conjunction with its semester intakes. It will continue to be Curtin Malaysia’s largest and most anticipated yearly event, offering opportunities for fun, hands-on learning in a festival-like atmosphere, exploring facilities, and interacting with staff and students.
This year’s event will be the campus’ twelfth and a lead-up to its 20th Anniversary celebrations next year.
Carrying the theme ‘Discover. Experience. Interact’, it will feature a Future Students Hub where future students can gather information on courses, scholarships and enrolment, and Faculty Showcases highlighting teaching and research excellence at Curtin Malaysia’s faculties and graduate school.
There will also be an exhibition promoting STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) organised by the Office of Research and Development in collaboration with the faculties.
The Faculty Showcases will carry interesting themes like ‘EngineerFEST’ (Faculty of Engineering and Science), ‘FOB Funfair’ (Faculty of Business), ‘Humanities To The Rescue’ (Faculty of Humanities) and ‘Element’s Realm’ (Curtin Malaysia Graduate School).
In addition to interesting facets of the faculties, visitors will get the chance to learn about innovations in engineering, science and technology, and the intriguing aspects of business and mass communication.
There will also be faculty-run competitions open to teams from secondary schools, offering attractive prizes and giveaways for participating teams. They include a Spelling Bee Challenge organised by the Faculty of Humanities and an Eco-Business Design Challenge by the Faculty of Business.
The signature competition will be the Curtin Croc Challenge 3.0, Curtin Malaysia’s iconic annual crocodile-themed electronic design competition organised by its Faculty of Engineering and Science and Office of Research and Development for the third year. Schools in Miri, Brunei and Sabah have been invited to compete for cash awards and other prizes.
“Whether you’re an interested member of the public, or a future student, parent or teacher, you’re sure to get a lot out of the activities throughout the day,” remarked Curtin Malaysia’s Pro Vice-Chancellor, President and Chief Executive Professor Jim Mienczakowski.
Mienczakowski said everyone is welcome to the event which attracts thousands of visitors each year, including hundreds of secondary school students accompanied by teachers and school counsellors.
Regular visitors will find comfort in perennial attractions like the live entertainment and wide variety of food, retail and activity stalls run by student clubs and local businesses. Organisations and businesses interested to rent stalls can contact Curtin Malaysia’s Corporate Communications Department. Event sponsors are entitled to free booths.
In support of local charities and non-governmental organisations, the event will feature a ‘Community Showcase’ where visitors can learn more about various charitable and community causes in Miri.
The event is being supported by the Miri City Council for the ninth consecutive year, as well as by a number of corporate sponsors.
