Announcement of TAR UC President Datuk Dr Tan Chik Heok’s Retirement

Tunku Abdul Rahman University College (‘TAR UC’) would like to announce the retirement of its President, Datuk Dr Tan Chik Heok, effective from 1 September 2018.

Datuk Dr Tan has an illustrious career with the then TAR College and TAR UC spanning 30 years. He joined TAR College in 1982 as a lecturer at the School of Arts and Science and rose to the Dean of the said school. In 2002, he was seconded to set up the newly established university now known as Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (‘UTAR’). He was with UTAR for 6 years to set up the University as the founding Dean of Faculty of Information and Communication Technology and subsequently Vice President of Academic and Internationalisation before being posted back to the College again in 2008 as Principal of TAR College and later became the first President of TAR UC after it was upgraded to University College in May 2013.

Under his able leadership as the President, the institution has achieved many noteworthy milestones amongst which the most significant is the upgrading of TAR College to University College in 2013. He also led greater physical expansion and modernisation of all TAR UC campuses’ learning facilities and resources as well as drove entrepreneurship and research culture in the University College.

Dato’ Sri Liow Tiong Lai, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of TARC Education Foundation and Board of Governors of TAR UC, expresses his sincerest appreciation to Datuk Dr Tan on behalf of the Board of Trustees and Board of Governors for having served and contributed tremendously to the University College as the President for 10 years.

His successor has been appointed and further announcement on the new TAR UC President will be made in due course.
