The Malaysia Art Educator Lifetime Achievement Award 2019

The Malaysia Art Educator Lifetime Achievement Awards are awarded, by The One Academy (TOA), to two highly respected individuals who are dedicated and passionate about the art education. The award is divided into two stages, namely secondary education and tertiary education. The recipients of the award are highly motivated individuals who go above and beyond their role as educators to bridge the gap between the younger generation and art. This award is conferred as a gesture of gratitude and appreciation of the tireless work that the educators have put in to create artistic young minds time and time again.

Secondary education category – has been awarded to Ms Tan Ngee Kong.

Tan Ngee Kong has immersed herself in the Art education field since 1992. She graduated from the National Taiwan Normal University School of Art with a degree in Fine Arts and subsequently honed her skills under the tutelage of the prodigious Chinese Artist Zhang Daqian’s disciple. Now leading the Art Department of Jit Sin Independent High School, she has been involved in the planning and set up of a myriad of events, most notably the Jit Sin Graduation Art Exhibition and Parents Day Exhibition.

A firm believer of the notion that art comes in all shapes and sizes, she is also a big supporter of the idea that one should not limit the scope of one’s artistic presence. She is known for her feats in Chinese painting, calligraphy, oil painting, watercolour, engraving and pottery painting. She enjoys immersing herself in her creations and attempts at capturing the fleeting magic of new experiences.

She aspires to leave her foot marks both locally and internationally. She has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions worldwide in locations such as Taiwan, China, Canada, Macau, Australia, Georgia and Malaysia. Her accolades include The New Artists of The National Chinese Ink Painting (Malaysia), Silver Medal in ‘Maple Leaf Award’ International Wash and Ink Exhibition (Canada), The World Famous First Class Artists (China), Gold Award in World Cultural Technology Contribution Award (China) & Honourable Award in USCAM Comic Creative Work (Malaysia). She was featured in the Astro TV programmes: Campus Report, My Teacher and Kuala Kurau Outdoor Sketching. She was also mentioned in the DongZong High School Monthly Journal – Let’s Conduct an Art Class Differently: Explore Arts the Unconventional Way.
