Dasein Illustration Students put on Final Year Exhibition, “MonARTpoly”

Inspired from the famous Monopoly board game, “MonARTpoly” is the final year exhibition put together by Dasein Academy of Art’s batch 172 illustration program students. The students underwent 2 years and 8 months of learning and training at the college, from the same starting point which is the basic learning program that eventually led them to different art practice and styles as showcased in the exhibition, including concept art, contemporary art, concept art and more. Over 200 pieces of artworks and crafts were on display at the two-week exhibition which was held recently at the college’s art gallery.

“If you have strong interest and passion, and enjoy the moments of art creation – from zero to hero, then you are welcome to join the program,” said Liew Ka Cheong, the senior lecturer at Dasein Academy of Art. Industry representatives from Lemon Sky Studios, Passion Republic, Glow Production were also present at the exhibition.

Dasein’s Diploma in Illustration program covers a balanced education of classical art skills with contemporary idea development and new media; to enable the development of a signature style while improving the inherent artistic aptitude for illustration. Students also pick up skills such as photography and digital imaging, 2D animation, storyboard creation, digital applications and more.

An illustrator’s works are not only featured in books and on packaging, but the trend today created endless demand in animation, web design and interactive media as well. “An art career cannot happen overnight, but that does not mean doing art gets you no job opportunities. It is a big and competitive market out there. One can pursue a great career as a professional artist if they have talent, skills and dedication,” said Gooi Hean Chye, President of Dasein Academy of Art.
