Choral Singing Showcase by TAR UC Choir SocietyOctober 14, 2021 | Campus News
If you are yearning for a musical extravaganza during this time of pandemic, you are in for a pleasant surprise. The ‘TAR UC Choral Exchange 6’ will be brought to you virtually this year on 24 October 2021 from 8pm to 10pm (GMT +8:00). This event which is organised by TAR UC Choir biannually, aims to promote the joy of choral singing to the public as well as to provide a platform for choir groups from different countries to showcase their talents in choral singing.
TAR UC Choir Society was established in 2004 to provide a platform for TAR UC students from different programmes who have the passion to sing as well as to bond with others who are musically inclined. During its 17 years of existence, the society has managed to secure 17 successes at choral competitions at home and abroad.
In this choral showcase, there will be a cultural exchange session on 23 October 2021 among all the choirs from 7 different universities including Chiang Mai University Choir, Thailand, Feng Chia University Chorus, Taiwan, The University of The Philippines Singing Ambassadors, Philippines, Nanyang Technological University Choir, Singapore, Troy University Frequency Choir, United States, The Winthrop Singers from UWA, Australia and Soul Sounds Academy Intermediate Choir, Sri Lanka. While past choral exchange events were held physically at TAR UC campus, the organising committee has decided to hold the event online this year due to the on-going pandemic. This in a way opens up the possibility for overseas choir teams to participate.
Apart from that, the virtual choir concert on 24 October 2021 also aims to create public exposure to the songs and cultures from 8 different countries as each choir will perform some folk songs or popular songs from their respective countries. TAR UC Choir will also perform some folk songs from Asia including
Malaysia entitled, “Asiana Medley” and another well-known pop song entitled, “Bohemian Rhapsody”.
