Charterhouse UK Opens First International Campus in MalaysiaJune 10, 2022 | National News
Charterhouse UK today officially launched ‘Charterhouse International Secondary School Kuala Lumpur’ at their purpose-built campus in the heart of Hartamas. The school, designed exclusively for upper secondary students, is an English-medium school that provides a modern outlook on both learning development and teaching pedagogies.
The launch involved students, parents, and invited dignitaries, which included His Highness Tengku Amir Shah ibni Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, Raja Muda (Crown Prince) of Selangor, who officiated the launch.
A speech from YM Dato’ Syed Haizam (Chairman, Board of Governors), offered insight into this special relationship, and the importance of the school to them. Other speakers included Charterhouse Forum President, Aisyah Sophea, Andrew Turner (Senior Deputy Head, Charterhouse UK), as well as Richard Davidson (Founding Headteacher of Charterhouse International Secondary School, Charterhouse Malaysia).
As the first Asia-based campus of one of Britain's most prestigious public schools, Charterhouse Malaysia offers the best of both worlds benefiting from the legacy of heritage, as it is well-positioned to harness the exciting potential of the future for the region.
Charterhouse has been evolving for over 400 years, and whilst the shared DNA with Charterhouse UK means the values and traditions of the parent school is ingrained in the culture of the school here, the Malaysian campus is part of an initiative to enhance innovation and the student journey in upper secondary learning. Charterhouse Malaysia exclusively delivers the globally-recognised A-Level programme—one of the leading pathways to university study.
Charterhouse’s outlook is very modern. From curriculum design, to the layout of learning spaces, students are encouraged to think and learn independently by engaging in projects in the local community by devising innovative solutions to social issues. This approach not only builds their confidence and leadership skills, but also a deeper sense of social responsibility.
Charterhouse inculcates an environment that nurtures independence and responsibility so that when students graduate, they are well prepared for university life.
