Curtin soars in 2025 QS World University Rankings
June 7, 2024 | Campus NewsMiri, Sarawak – 6 June 2024 – Curtin University has achieved its highest-ever rank in the prestigious QS World University Rankings (QSWUR), climbing nine places to 174th in the world and 13th in Australia. This remarkable achievement underscores the University’s commitment to excellence in education, research, and global engagement.
In the 21st edition of the QSWUR, Curtin made significant gains, climbing 216 places in the sustainability measure, 23 places in the international research network category, and five places in academic reputation. Additionally, Curtin is now ranked third in Australia for international faculty, highlighting its appeal to the world’s top educators and researchers.
Curtin University Vice-Chancellor Professor Harlene Hayne attributed this success to the University’s strategic pillars of People, Planet, and Partnership. “It takes a collective effort to achieve such outstanding results and they are testament to the dedication of our industry partners, researchers, and staff whose unwavering commitment has been instrumental in Curtin’s continued success,” Professor Hayne said.
Professor Hayne also emphasised the importance of Curtin’s leap in sustainability, reflecting the University’s commitment to social responsibility and support for the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

The QS World University Rankings assess institutions based on key criteria including research, employability, learning experience, global engagement, and sustainability. The 2025 edition evaluated over 1,500 institutions worldwide, based on an extensive analysis of more than 17 million publications and almost 176 million citations. These results, released annually by global higher education analysts Quacquarelli Symonds, offer a comprehensive overview of the world’s leading universities.
