Polytechnic education was introduced in Malaysia with funding from the World Bank and in collaboration with the Colombo Plan in 1969. In its endeavour to meet the growing demand for skilled human capital today, the Ministry of Higher Education is constantly upgrading the country's polytechnic system and has plans to transform polytechnic education to be more attractive to students.
Currently, there are 33 polytechnics in the country which can be divided into three categories - premier, conversional and metro. These polytechnics provide skilled semi-professionals in the fields of engineering, commerce and hospitality at diploma and advanced diploma levels to meet the demand of the public and private sectors.

These polytechnics offer full-time diploma courses in the fields of:

These courses are currently conducted in Bahasa Melayu and English. The duration for diploma courses are three years (six semesters). The general entry requirement for full-time Diploma courses is 3 to 5 SPM credits in relevant subjects depending on the course.
The teaching and learning process is conducted through lectures, tutorials and hands-on work including individual group projects. Assessment is through course work and examinations that are held at the end of each semester. Besides these, each student is required to undergo industrial training for one semester, usually in Semester 4 at the diploma level. Industrial training helps expose students to the real working environment and provide opportunities for the students to relate the theoretical knowledge to practical understanding.
Quality education and training is ensured through commitment and total involvement of highly-qualified as well trained teams of lecturers.

Online Application - Application Procedure
There are two admissions a year in June and December. Applicants are required to purchase a Personal Identification Number (PIN) from any Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN) branch nationwide. Applicants or their representatives need to produce the applicant’s identification card / MyKad when purchasing their PIN. Applicants must use their PIN and ID card/MyKad number to assess and complete the online form.
