Studying at Polytechnics - Polytechnic Education in Malaysia for SPM Holders

by on August 14, 2020 | Public Higher Education Routes

Polytechnic education was introduced in Malaysia with funding from the World Bank and in collaboration with the Colombo Plan in 1969. In its endeavour to meet the growing demand for skilled human capital today, the Ministry of Higher Education is constantly upgrading the country's polytechnic system and has plans to transform polytechnic education to be more attractive to students.

Currently, there are 33 polytechnics in the country which can be divided into three categories - premier, conversional and metro. These polytechnics provide skilled semi-professionals in the fields of engineering, commerce and hospitality at diploma and advanced diploma levels to meet the demand of the public and private sectors.

To be Malaysia’s main provider of innovative human capital through transformational education and training for the global workforce by 2015.

Breaking boundaries for the creation of transformative and creative learning environment for an innovation-led economy.

To produce a skilled workforce in order to fulfill the country's needs in embracing global challenges in the dynamic future through:

  • quality programmes
  • relevant curriculum
