Cyberjaya University College of Medical Sciences (CUCMS) was founded in line with the Government's aspiration to further improve the health care of Malaysians through the state-of-art education, technology and training in medical sciences.
In line with the constant expansion of health care programmes, there is an increasing need for quality pharmaceutical care and a continuing demand for well educated pharmacists as the emphasis is now on patient care outcomes. The role of pharmacist has changed greatly from product orientation to patient care in this new era. Thus, pharmacists with expertise in specialised areas are becoming more in demand as the profession changes.
With the emphasis on the provision of clinical pharmacy services, CUCMS has taken the lead to be the first in Malaysia to offer Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD)programme conducted by course work. This full-time (two and a half years)mixed- mode coursework programme has been approved by the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education Malaysia (MOE) and the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA). The approved PharmDis seen as a positive move towards elevating the level of clinical pharmacy practice and education in the light of international move towards patient-oriented pharmacy. This programme is specifically for pharmacists wanting to develop clinical expertise. It aims to produce skilled pharmacists who will contribute to the advancement in the knowledge and practice of clinical pharmacy in this country.
