Course Overview

The highly technical field of medical bioscience is all about the human body, health care and disease. But you won't be peering through microscopes all the time. Fieldwork with a laboratory or community health organisation and professional training are also built into your course. This means a wide range of career prospects both in Malaysia and overseas.

A special feature of the degree is its specific development for the Malaysian context. The course provides you with an understanding of medical bioscience in a tropical environment, with a particular focus on techniques in tropical medicine.

The course commences with a foundation year, covering biology, biotechnology, chemistry and statistical reasoning and analysis. You also study a wide range of topics specific to medical bioscience and undertake a professional attachment to a clinical or medical laboratory. Every subject is tailored to meet the specific demands of our region and we make sure you leave with a sound understanding of ethics.

Khatijah Khalilur Rahman says the course is "mentally stimulating and challenging, enabling me to grow as a student, but still allowing me enough free time to engage in social and extracurricular aspects of my life."

Khatijah took a holistic approach to her education and chose elective units from other faculties. Like her, you might find that the degree provides a neat pathway to studying a MBBS (Graduate Medicine Program).
