This programme is designed to train graduates to be highly competent professionals working in a medical facility under the supervision of a physician. Graduates are trained to be able to develop strong communication skills with a well-groomed and clean personality, putting great emphasis on establishing and maintaining wide interpersonal relationships with other healthcare providers. Graduate will receive education and training to perform clinical as well as administrative roles in order to ensure the smooth running of a medical facility. The position was once known as a ‘dresser’, but has been developed into a very versatile role with multi-skilled healthcare career. Among others, graduates shall be trained to deal with maintaining medical record and charts, taking medical history and recording vital signs, preparing patients for examination, drawing blood and collecting laboratory specimens, administration of medication prescribed by doctors and assisting during physical examination and treatment. Graduates in this profession are highly demanded for occupation at private and public hospitals, nursing homes, outpatient centres and private clinics.
SPM/O-level/Equiv.
Students who graduate from this course will be eligible to obtain employment as Medical Assistants or Assistant Medical Officers (AMO) in Public Hospitals and are recognized by the Medical Assistant Board, Ministry of Health Malaysia.
