Diploma in Occupational Safety & Health

Course Overview

The Diploma in Occupational Safety and Health programme provides knowledge, skills and attitudes through educational training of the theory and practicum attachment, and the instillation of professional values, ethics through social context among the students and the stakeholders. The programme aims are as follows:

• To produce occupational safety and health graduates who meet the requirements and expectations of the stakeholders (at diploma level);
• To produce graduate who can contribute effectively to the community in the field of occupational safety and health;
• To prepare graduate for employments in all economic sectors that require safety and health officer as per the law, such as manufacturing industry, construction industry, oil and gas, plantation, service and utility sectors, research institutions, government, local authorities and NGOs.
• To provide training based on scientific principles that encompasses the following achievements:
  Competency through knowledge in occupational safety and health sciences, and safe practice;
  Professionalism through professional attitudes, ethical conducts, and social responsibilities;
  Leadership through teamwork, creativity and innovative, communication and social skills, critical thinking, problem solving and adhere to the evidence-based practice;
  Lifelong learning through continual upgrading of knowledge and skills including ICT enabling to keep abreast with the rapid advancement of global knowledge in the field; and
  Entrepreneurial and managerial concerns on safety and health issues that are relevant to local, national and international context;
• To produce graduate of safety and health who are sensitive and responsive towards the community, culture and the environment
