Course Description

The MDM is designed for students who have gained a considerable degree of subject knowledge and proficiency from undergraduate studies, experience of the workplace, or both. As stated above, our intention is to provide a challenging and rewarding programme of post-experience design management development. We do this by using an approach to study which is essentially one of critique and evaluation; using the results of current and recent research and case studies to analyse, evaluate and appraise established methods, practices or techniques. It is student-centred, and makes good use of the students’ prior knowledge and experience.

Teaching input is provided via a wide range of approaches, including lectures, tutorials, practical, seminars, video and case studies. Particular emphasis is placed on team teaching and the setting of work based tasks at strategic level. Learning strategies include live projects, group presentations, working with local art, design and creative organisations and self-managed learning. To further enrich the learning experience and ensure the programme is contemporary and practice-based, guest lecturers are used. These are often experts in the particular module being studied, or brought in to cover a recent development in either business theory or practice.

The course aims to develop high-level leadership, management, communication and analytical skills for a career in the creative and cultural industries. The content of the course reflects current knowledge, debates and issues within the discipline encompassing 3 main dimensions/ pillars;
