Course Description

The increase in the occurrence of existing diseases and the continual emergence of new or exotic diseases and re-emergence of old diseases place increasing demands on healthcare delivery. In Malaysia, there has been rapid growth in the healthcare system over the past few years. An efficient laboratory service is essential for a good healthcare system.

Appropriate healthcare management relies greatly on results of clinical laboratory investigations and patients’ lives may depend on the experience and expertise of the Biomedical Scientist.

Malaysia has a vision to become a developed country by 2020. Much emphasis is given to various high-technology projects including biomedical research. Promotion of biomedical research is essential for progress of medicine and advancement of healthcare.

The Biomedical Scientist, equipped with the appropriate knowledge and expertise, evolves with the changing trends in modern technology to fulfill the trust and reliance expected of them.

Canadian Grade 12/13

Pass (Average of 60% in Biology/ Physics and Chemistry)

Unified Examination Certificate (UEC)

B in 5 subjects (including Biology / Physics and Chemistry)

Australian University Foundation Programmes

70% aggregate or  TER/ UAI/ ENTER/ ATAR 75 or cGPA 2.50 in Biology/ Physics and Chemistry

Indian Pre-University

All qualifications should include Biology / Physics and Chemistry and attained 5 credits at SPM level or equivalent level, 3 of which in the following subjects (Biology, Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, English) (except Diploma and Degree level).

# The duration of this programme must be a minimum of 1 year in the same accredited institution.

* IMU does not accept any foundation in science courses from other colleges/universities for its dentistry programme except for foundation in science by IMU.

Foundation in Science qualification from other colleges/universities will be considered on case by case basis for admission into the Medicine & Pharmacy programme. In addition, it is only applicable for application into the IMU local programmes and not for all credit transfer options. Student with IMU Foundation in Science can apply into the IMU programmes with credit transfer option (except for medicine & dentistry), upon meeting eligibility of the required entry requirement of the intended programme.

 

English Language Requirement

Applicants are required to have this at the point of entry:

MUET Band score of 3 (for Malaysian students only)*
IELTS Overall band score of 5.5 (for Malaysian students)*Overall band score of 6.0 (for International students)*
Those who opt for overseas option must achieve an overall band score of 7.0.
TOEFL*
Overall score of 513 (PBT) / 183 (CBT)/ 65 (iBT)
Biomedical Science/ Nutrition ( International students only)
 
Overall score of 550 (PBT) / 213 (CBT) / 79 (iBT)

* ONLY applicable for those who are completing the entire degree in IMU, Malaysia.

  • Students without IELTS or MUET can opt to sit for the Password English Test which is available only in IMU and must obtain the equivalent score required for IELTS. Students who have successfully enrolled using the Password English Test are still required to sit for MUET and (or) IELTS exam within the first year of their studies in IMU. This is ONLY applicable to those who are completing the entire degree in IMU, Malaysia. Please contact Admissions Office for further details or to register for the test.
